We are on Hurricane watch here in Florida. Dorian is a beast and keeps the forecasters guessing on where he will ultimately go.
So I joyfully developed an umbilical hernia during my last bout of ascites. The ascites is gone now, but the hernia remains. It isn't really painful, just uncomfortable and weird. It has me worried all of the time. Is it worse? Is it strangulated? Doc looked at it. Said it is fine and I'm sure he is correct. I just tend to be a little freaked with the new and ever changing effects of my liver disease. Hah! Doc and I both agreed to do the watch and wait thing. No need to put my body through repair surgery. Trying to manage on my own. I purchased a hernia support brace yesterday. Seems to be helping. Getting used to it.
Anyone want to share their experiences with hernias?

Well I have had Recti Divarication for about 8 or so months - now 12 months post TP. One Consultant called it a hernia but a couple of others said it isn’t. But boy does it still hurt. I was promised an MRI scan three times but then three weeks ago I was given a CT scan instead. I have queried why a CT and not an MRI and have been told by the Consultant’s secretary that that change was made by the Radiologist. I have sort of complained and asked for an explanation as to why he/she can override my Consultant’s proposal. No answer yet and also no result from the CT scan ☹️👎🏻.
That’s my sort of experience of a sort of hernia!

Sorry to read about your CT and not MRI scan Angus situation Angus! Have you tried calling your GP or consultants PA to see whether he/she has received a copy of the report yet? I waited around 4 weeks for my results! I do hope you get to the bottom.of it all soon!
I have one but it went away after a drain. Its still there but it went from sticking out to where a binder was needed to now you dont even see it. I can take my shirt off and it cant be seen. Dont need drains anymore either. A strangulated will cause a lot of pain my dr said and you wont be able to push the fluid back in/out, it will become hard and the fluid gets trapped. Youll know it if it happens.
My other half had been diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis in October 2017 and his liver had become compensated in February 2018, but he was left with an umbilical hernia from the ascites. The consultant did not want to consider a planned repair at that point, due to the potential complications. In March 2018, he developed extreme abdominal pain and the A&E diagnosis was that the hernia was strangulated. They repaired the hernia (not sure of the actual method, except that it involved a lateral incision, much like that done for a Caesarian) the next day and didn't spend any time in ICU. The operation did disrupt his liver to a certain extent and the ascites returned for a short time. Since the end of April 2018, there has been no recurrence of the ascites and no problems with the hernia repair. I hope this helps a little and that you don't have to go through anything like that. Also hope that the hurricane has moved from where you are.
That’s really good news kyia - on the repair front I mean! Seems quite often that those sort of hernia ops are not always successful or pain free post op. So it’s great to hear a positive outcome. Thanks for that 👍.
