Bowel trapped in Hernia

On Monday afternoon I felt a pop in my stomach, with extreme pain. I knew having it before my bowel had popped through a hernia in my stomach wall. The last time around a year ago this happened, I was unconscious for 5 days through the general anesthesia and liver disease.

This made me worry so much as I knew I needed an operation to put the bowel back or loose my bowel.

Fortunately my liver has improved from where it was a year ago and after a successful operation I have not had the liver problem that was caused by the trauma of the operation.

In short what I'm trying to say is if you need surgery, even if you have had a bad experience, by keeping your liver as healthy as you can will increase the chances of a trouble free admission.

I am still in agony even with lots of pain relief but I'm not unconscious.

Take care all.

Good morning. I am glad the operation went well, this is very encouraging for others in the same situation.

Bern,

Glad you've got through your surgery without a hitch and are doing well. You make light of something which actually must have been really frightening. You've shown great courage and resilience.

Thanks for reassuring anyone looking forward to a hernia repair, especially as some time in the future I'm going to have an incisional hernia fixed from my transplant.

My Bertha is going to fight to the bitter end but I’ve gotten my liver and body in the best shape it can be so hopefully the operation and recovery should go smoothly.

My liver doctor said they would only operate if my Child Pugh score was A. No way if it was a C.

Cheers,

Brett

I started out as C but improved over time to A. That score can change often though.

Cheers,

Brett

I was surprised how well and smoothly everything went. You would not have believed 12months ago the same operation I almost died from. So its good they ensuring your well enough to sail through it....good luck
