I know I drink too much and have had a shock at my reading of 151. I am a 38 yr old female and was wondering, now that I have admitted it to myself, how long it will take to get back to normal if I don't drink any alcohol at all?
Thanks in advance,
Idly

It's good to hear your taking the results serious, not enough people do and I am guilty of that myself ... But if you stop drinking within the next 6 months you will see a difference and please do continue its worth it 😊
I had a high reading gave up for six weeks went back normal.
Personally I would try and cut down but if you binge like I do once a week give up for a few months. I would advice giving up but if you want to drink once a week but not to access giving up for eight weeks would help. But if like me one means a bucket and an ea visit give up
GGT usually returns to normal in 2 to 6 weeks if you completely abstain from alcohol. It has a half-life of 14 - 26 days so in 14 - 26 days your reading of 151 should be down to around 75 which would still put it a little above normal. It could take the full 6 weeks or longer for a high reading like yours to come back to the normal range of 3 to 60 IU/I in the US. In Australia where I live the normal range is lower 5 - 50 IU/I so it would take longer to come down to the lower normal reference range.
