Varices

What triggers them to go up and down like a yo yo? I was stage 3 again. 5 bandings then stage 2 with 3 bandings now stage one with no bandings. They keep changing month by month.

Cheers,

Brett

My hubby has never ever been told any stages - he either has had varices with bleeding (7), then endoscopies with 1 - 6 banded at a time then all varices eradicated due to intensive banding (42 banded in total). All clear for a couple of years then at his last endoscopy - barely visible varices (banding not required).

Just the way it goes.

I'd have thought maybe because of fluctuations in portal BP?

I think the function of your liver does ;)

Brett at least you know what a banbing is! I have no idea and am so lazy I haven’t yet googled it lol 😭

It could have something to do with your diet, Brett. I have a hiatal hernia that popped open about a year ago. During the emergency endoscopy the gastro guy discovered one varices (what is the singular?), and the hernia had closed up. Haven't had any problems since I started avoiding the usual suspects (fatty, fried, acidic, bubbly and, unfortunately, nightshades, which includes tomatoes, eggplant and potatoes, WAAAH). I can't even SNIFF tomatoes without risking everything!

So many horrible experiences to report, starting with a broken hip. Will look for your emails. OR, you could send me a new one. It's really nice to know someone was thinking of me. xox

I don't think the word has a singular or plural. I think it's the word vein or veins that change it.

Mine was due to putting too much pressure on my stomach when I couldn’t poo.

Oh, s***, hahaha. I thought you were talking about varices in your THROAT, dude. Can't stop laughing.

Try just plain old senna, or drink it as tea. It's just an herb. I usually start out in the AM with two tablets, then another if needed. Experiment until you get the dose that works. Depends on the brand, I guess. Painkillers can really clog you up -- that was my problem, but I have no problem now that I'm not taking them.. I imagine there are other medications that have the same effect. Nothing more excruciating than constipation. I have been known to beg for lactulose... I just don't get some of the galactically stupid decisions made by medical personnel.

I drink lactulose like I did wine lately 😂

I’m still kicking along. Trying to look after the reprobates on here 😂
