Liver Disease & Rashes. Please Share Your Story.

I've been diagnosed with fatty liver. Steatosis I believe. Looking at the ultrasound I'm about a stage 3 fatty liver. Its mainly from drinking far to much for far too long. The initial reason that I had an ultrasound is that I have rashes on my legs, that originally started in the groin area, then moved to my feet and ankles, then to my shin, then to the back of my knees, every time it would move, it would disappear from the previous location. My assumption was that it had something to do with my liver, so bloodwork and an ultrasound was done.

The doctor seems absolutely sure that the rashes have nothing to do with my liver, but I dont think thats the case. So my question is, is there anyone here with any form of liver disease that suffers from rashes, not just general itching, but a full on rash that itches badly, and does not go away. If you do and respond, please elaborate on the details.

Thank you everyone and I wanted to say too that alcoholism really is a disease and these people truly do need help when they are drinking too much, before its too late. If you have any loved ones and you truly care about this please do everything you can to save them. Alcohol is a true destroyer.

I will add too that I cut my drinking way down. and go a long time without drinking, but I do slip up here or there, maybe every few months. Im doing my absolute best, but from cutting down the drinking over the last two years my enzymes have finally normalized. I haven't had another ultrasound yet but I want to go and get one and see where my liver is. I do have concerns that there may be a degree of fibrosis as well, so I am considering a fibroscan as well. My doctors never opted for this and I had to find it myself. The medical community is a failure for all the money it makes in my opinion.

Thanks everyone for reading this and please share if you have rashes with your liver disease.

The article below may be of some use to you. I have liver and skin symptoms but they don't sound anything like yours so I'm not sure my story would be of much help to you, though my condition is covered briefly in the article, porphyria cutanea tarda. Your rash could be due to liver disease but could also be totally unrelated too. Have you been tested for hep c? Rashes are common with this. Wishing you all the best. mdedge.com/ccjm/article/950...

Hi, I had a rash on one shin before I was diagnosed with cirrhosis. It was hot and painful it would be slightly itchy, I've been told it was nothing to do with my cirrhosis but I think otherwise. I have photos but don't know how to add it to my comment x

Hey thanks for sharing! Can you elaborate on what stage of cirrhosis you had? How it was diagnosed? What your blood levels were? Maybe you could email me the picture? I don’t know how to attach images in replies either.

Hi, I don't have my paperwork with me as away on holiday right now. I did create a post saying what my scores were. So maybe if you searched my name they will show up.

It started with a painful left shin, it went away then I had a painful right foot that ballooned up. They tested for loads of different things from a blood clot to leukaemia. Then my left shin pain came back and with it a rash this time. More tests and cirrhosis diagnosed caused by Nafld. They scanned my liver to give the final diagnosis. It took about 3 months in all. I also had pain under my right rib, going into my back and shouldet. my spleen is also enlarged, but my bloods quickly went back to normal once I began regular exercise and eating healthy. I also was tired all the time for no reason. Forgetful, stroppy/moody, kept bruising with no real cause.

Forgetful still. To add. Mostly the rash has gone. It doesn't bother me but I can see where it was under the skin. It looks like the little red dots you get after waxing...but faded now.
