Hi all, not sure if you have read my previous post about NCPH. I had a TIPS procedure done June 28 and nothing but problems since. I woke from general anesthesia is terrible pain abdomen area. They gave me strong pain relievers. I was delirious and sweating.

I finally calmed down with the medication. I went for an ultrasound yesterday and was told there was blood in the abdominal area but probably from the TIPS procedure and not currently bleeding (hemaglobin was 83.. now at 93)

Well Im now heading down for a CT scan at 1am.

Im just getting so nervous and Im in pain too with heart palpitations. They gave me Luctose? And that helped with the brain fog.

Has anyone else been through this with TIPS.

Hi aileenholden,

I had the same proceedure about two months a go. It was either that or death of uncontrolled esophageal bleeding. Since then the only issue I have every now and then is palpitations after eating. The scans don’t show any blockage or abnormalities and my blood results have become increasingly better. No pain. I am taking Lactulose to reduce the ammonia levels in my blood.

I hope they resolve your issue. Any questions please feel free to ask

Thank you for responding Meteocal,

I had some supper last night and I felt my heart palpitations again but stopped after about 20 minutes ago. I am at home now and watching for signs of a bleed. Mostly I have to watch for how I feel and if my pain gets worse or uncontrollable with Tylenol 3.

You did not experience pain after your TIPS procedure?

I was told earlier that pain afterwards is very uncommon. Mine was due to a hematoma in the liver. My hemaglobin was 79 when I left so there was a bleed for sure.

I see my hepatologist on Wednesday for a check up anyways.

It is helpful to speak to others who have had this done. Its quite uncommon!
