My husband was diagnosed with liver disease in August 2019. He has suddenly gone yellow, tummy pains, vision disturbance and having his bowels open frequently. Is this to be expected? He is refusing to go to GP. What can I do? So scared and frightened he will drop down dead.

Hi I’m quite new to the forum but my thoughts are that you need to call 111 at the very least and get some advice, they may suggest a trip to A&E to get some support and treatment. You can ask for advice on his behalf if he’s reluctant, I wouldn’t personally wait x please don’t panic Liver disease can be very up and down with symptoms as I am sure you are aware, his symptoms sound unpleasant and uncomfortable, treatment ASAP will help x

Your husband bilrubin is probably up which causes him to be yellow, if he is frequenly having a bowel it is probably due to his meds (lactose). If your husband won't go to the hosptital just call the doctor and let them know what is going on with him.

Where's the much needed protein in amongst that lot?

If you are going to state what I consider to be alternative therapies please quote the sources of such a therapy that have shown it to be medically effective.

Personally I find what you have written is advice that I certainly would not follow.

Cheers for sharing Ofeck...will definately get a copy as I've already read similar mind blowing books by Dr Brian Weiss, so far read around 12 !

PS ...Only for those who believe!

Thank you for sharing which I would love to try for a short period of time but would definately miss my eggs and very small amount of cheese and yogurt to protect my bones due to completing menopause at 40 !

I read yesterday that freezing lemons then grating the skin and sprinkling over food daily can cure numerous cancers and is exceptionally very good for liver diseases and other illnesses! Its seems the drug manufactures have known about how good lemons are since the early 1970's but didnt want to publish there findings!!!

I'm going to look into this further and will update you all if I come across something of interest!

Oh no not another conspiracy theory 😀.

Next thing is I’ll hear is that I and thousands of others never really had liver disease 😀.

Ooh I know - no need to say Trish! 😀😀

Milo

in reply to ThreeSmiles

Ok Milo ......Well maybe a conspiracy theory but we all know how greedy these drug companies are and would rather manufacture medications themselves! Look at how Turmeric is helping others and now the drug companies are manufacturing Turmeric tablets ..... I'll say no more ....lol

Oh well time for some cycling as I'm now at the gym .....🙃🙂

Trish

PS .... I'm not afraid to come out and say I'm a spiritual medium ...hey ho .😉

ThreeSmiles in reply to

Ok, as a corollary then why aren’t they making grated lemon tablets? Probably a bigger mark up potential on those than on turmeric....

Anyway nuff said on this!

Good jobbie re the gym - are you getting back to it then?

Hey only 11 days till you can “legally “ mention the sky dive. Just remind us all where to donate to the QEHB and the British Liver Trust. Got to hope this crazy weather disappears! Aaaagh

Good luck

Miles

Hi Miles

Only 18 days until the dive and how I wish I could find an app showing my trembling legs! 😅 Would have been ok if previous date hadn't been cancelled! Now emmmm

Re gym ! Alls fine again and now working out between 1.5 to 2.5 hours with no knee issues so happy bunny on that front.

Health up and down but what's new!

Will launch Virginmoneygiving web later !,

Has the previous giving thing been closed then - I suppose it has to be after a certain time! Never mind all donations I presume are still valid! 👍.

Drinking salted water if you have cirrhosis is not to be recommended!

The whole "fad " by TisArmand is completely unsuitable for someone with liver disease ... please ignore it. Its just another vegan who believes if we all eat this way it will save the planet

Hi Tamros02, don't want to worry you but if that was my husband I would be ringing his consultant or whoever he is under the care of (if your husband has given consent for them to talk to you) or calling 111 (I suspect they will say to take him to a&e).

My husband has cirrhosis and a change in symptoms like this would definitely indicate a need to be checked over. My husband would do this willingly though, I feel sorry for those spouses who have to worry and nag to get them help. Hope he changes his mind.

Hi Tamrose. As others have said, he must see the doctor one way or another as a matter of urgency or go hospital. Good luck keep us posted . Best of luck

People suffering with liver disease lose muscle mass, to regain this they need to excercise, in order to have the energy to exercise they need measured amounts of carbohydrate as well as protein.... again l ask ... where are the carbohydrates in amongst this lot. I suggest you go away, take your vegan promoting fad with you and study fatty liver/fibrosis/cirrhosis and adjust your diet accordingly.

Hi Tamros,

With sudden changes in symptoms like you describe it is absolutely essential to get that medical advice. He must go to his gp as a minimum and soon. Even if it's just an infection, with liver disease it is essential to get some treatment as your immune system does not work as well as it would normally.

Things like this should not be left.

Second word of advice, ignore the clap trap being peddled by TisArmand.

Hi Tamros, if these are new symptoms ,then call 111. They are typical symptoms of cirrhosis, but if his stools are black and tarry, then it could indicate a bleed, so get him seen to.

David

Good morning,

This is a frightening situation for you and your husband. He needs urgent medical review. You will get a lot of support in this forum but of course the vast majority of users have no medical background so always get advice from the medical team .

(nb. One of the posts in reply to you has now been deleted as the advice was potentially harmful.)

We do have a free helpline if you would like to talk to one of our liver nurses:

Mon - Fri 10:00 - 15:00 0800 652 7330

regards

This is a forum for people with liver related illness, the correct diet for which is essential. For the majority living with the disease, they know exactly what the should and shouldn't be eating and drinking thanks to the experience of others here who are living with it and their qualified dieticians. No amount of praying, dancing naked in the woods or eating celery sticks is going to cure it

It must be the snake oil?

Laura009 profile image

As l've said, the diet is very specific for people with liver disease and cannot be played about or experimented with. The liver has over 500 functions, start experimenting with faddy diets is only going to put more unnecessary stress on an already much suffering liver. Stick to proven facts its far safer when dealing with this essential organ.
