Hi all husband diagnosed with cirrhosis of liver and varices. He has a low blood count white cells 1.5. Does anyone else have this? What can he do to improve this? He is tired all the time and gets dizzy. Not sure if it’s the meds or this.
Low blood count white cells: Hi all... - British Liver Trust
Low blood count white cells
Low blood count for WBCs and many other cells like RBCs and platelets is common with cirrhosis. The spleen enlarges and it ends up prematurely killing off healthy cells. There are a series of tests that can be ran to figure out what is exactly causing it. Normally, a hematologist would be a go to for that.
It's part and parcel of cirrhosis... They will only worry about it if it continues after transplant ... Mine has been 1.5 and lower continuously after my transplant and a few months ago I was referred to a heamtologist they said it's because spleen enlarged I have had an iron infusion but that made no difference I am eating high iron foods and drinking orange juice to help my body absorb the iron usefully it does make you tired but all normal sorry to say
Thank you so it’s normal. Having monthly blood test to keep an eye on it. Orange juice will be on the shopping list.
