Just wanted to ask those who are post, when you have caught a cold does it seem or has it lasted longer than pre?

I have had a cold now going on 4 weeks, in them four weeks I have also had a water, chest and eye infections and it seems I am now losing my voice (some say that's a great thing lol) I am just curious if it's going to be the norm now...

Hope your all good x

Hey Jojo , sorry you are feeling lousy at the moment but I’m the same whenever I catch the cold, it seems to be much more severe and I find it lasts for much longer, I have now barred people from visiting if they are unwell especially my children’s friends, because I was so ill last time, hope you feel better soon, 🌸🌸🌸

Thanks for that it's reassuring knowing it's not just me 😊 and I am definitely barring everyone now even with a sneeze lol. It's been a long month but I know it's easing so that's the main thing 😁

Nearly 7 months since the transplant for me. For the first 3 months it was a continual cold and a chest infection. Since February I have been fine.

I hope you feel better soon, there are going to be less viruses around now one hopes.

Hope your recovery been well (apart from the cold) 😉

Hi Jojo. Sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling so lousy. When you are first post transplant it is much harder to fight against colds and coughs etc because your immune system is being suppressed and there is so little you can take still. It does get a little easier as time goes on because you know what to expect and I felt my body adapted to my situation and coped better. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi No no.

I have been very fortunate that I only get 1 or 2 colds a year. I find the symptoms fairly mild but they can last a month. Having said that, I had a cough earlier this year that lasted over 2 months. Got to the point that I booked a GP appointment but typically by the time of the appointment, the symptoms had gone. Nonetheless he arranged a chest x ray which was clear.

I am 5 1/2 years post transplant and rarely suffer a cold. I get the occasional chill for a few days, but not had a proper cold for a few years. (oh, oh, you just watch, now I've gone and opened my big gob!!!) My missus is the same, and she works in the local hospital so is in constant contact with all the nasties staff and patients bring in.

I put it down to plenty of fresh air, exercise and lots of good quality fruit and veg. I have found that having no central heating in the house helps too.

Stay strong
