Hey I am nearly a year alcohol free and never felt better. I had become alcohol dependent and last year as very poorly and admitted to hospital for 4 weeks and nearly died. Since discharge I have abstained from alcohol and doing great a year on πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ. I had a fibro scan with a result of 58.7 KpA and was given diagnosis of chirossis. I had follow up on October but at thos appointment all my bloods were back to normal and he said he had never seen someone turn around so quickly and look so healthy x... Since being in hospital I have to this day had nothing wrong with me in any form and wouldn't believe I have this disease and to look at me I am healthy and never had a single symptom unlike some of you guys have 😒😒😒... I feel I have been given a second chance with my life x I wonder if I were to have another fibro scan whether my liver is still significantly damaged and will never repair or of it has done me proud and healed to an extent?.. I am under 6 monthly review with bloods and cancer screening scan. I now run again and better than ever xx plus live life to the full with my husband and 2 children too xx Keep positive everyone 😍😍😍

Someone recently posted a link ( academic.oup.com/alcalc/art... ) to a study that confirmed that FibroScan results can improve substantially over years of abstinence. The study included a case of someone with an initial FibroScan score of 72 kPa indicating that the person had severe cirrhosis and subsequent scores during periods of abstinence from alcohol that came all the way down to 7.3 kPa suggesting that the cirrhosis had healed but then a biopsy established that the liver was still cirrhotic.

You'll probably find that your FibroScan score comes down perhaps all the way to the healthy range but based on the study in the link (which only included a couple of people) it shouldn't be interpreted as you no longer having cirrhosis.

If I was in your situation I'd be encouraged by seeing the score come down. It could mean that the parts of the liver that were fibrotic had healed and become healthy. If your FibroScan score does gradually come down to the healthy range over the next few years you could request a biopsy to check if your liver was still cirrhotic.

You are doing everything you can to improve your health and given how well you feel your liver must be compensating really well so keep doing what you are doing and the chances are you'll live a normal lifespan with the healthy part of your liver keeping you feeling good.

Well done on your sobriety!!!. I was in a similar situation 10 yrs ago.. i did relapse in 2012 when i lost my dad to cancer after being his full time carer for months.

I have only ever had one fibroscan. Last feb 2017, all.i know is that it read 27. So i was f4 end stage fibrosis. My LFT results have been good for 4 years since my last relapse , yes a fibroscan can go down but this is no indication that cirrhosis has gone as once we have it we have it for life.

Keep doing what your doing!! Best wishes..Linda xx
