Fibroscan 19.4!!!

Hi I'm new to this site but wanted to ask a question, my fibroscan came back at 19.4 which I know is not good but appointment with liver specialist is not for another 3 weeks. Has anyone else had these kind of results & what was the outcome?

Hi there, dont worry so much. I have had higher reading than that and waited longer than 3 weeks for my next liver consultant.

Is it alcohol related or something else? Fibro results can come down .they can be affected by meds and even food you have eaten. .

If your not happy then contact them again

Was diagnosed with hep c 8yrs ago, turns out I've had it from infected blood products I had at age 9, (I also have haemophilia B which is why I was receiving blood products) interferon meds didn't work 4-5 yrs ago after 18mnths of treatment but new drug sofosbuvir worked & I was given the all clear from hep c last June, specialist wanted to just check state of liver before I leave their care in just over a yesr as biopsy has been avoided due to risk of bleeding. Was a bit shocked by result as no symptoms at all & I know I shouldn't but I've googled every possibility.

Oh i see, well im glad to hear you were given the all clear !! .

I had no reason to think my fibro score would be as high as it was. I have cirrhosis. 10 yrs in june . I stopped drinking and ate a good diet. I did relapse in 2012 after taking care of my dad with cancer. Sadly passed away that year and that was when i did not want to live any more. I must have had a good 2 yr binge untill i was poorly again.

Mine is 27 !! Now that is high and end stage. I am however asking for another one in may when i see my hepatologist as it would have been 12months since i had one. Try not to worry.. im sure all will be ok.

Yeah I know i shouldn't worry about what might be but so hard not to, I'm 45yrs old have four children & my dad also has terminal cancer, until I know more I'm keeping my results from my family as they have enough to deal with without anymore worry. Definitely a good idea for u to get another fibroscan as I've heard yr liver can repair itself to some extent especially when alcohol is the cause. 😊

Hi Lljay, I also had hep c from blood treatment I had as a baby, I was only diagnosed in 2014 but I cleared hep c in 2016 on the new treatments, my fibro score was over 11kpa before treatment then it seemed to go down at my 4 week post treatment check and then it was higher at my 12 month post treatment scan so I was terrified I was left with permanent damage but I had another fibro just last Wednesday at 18 month post treatment and the score was 6.1kpa ...my highest was 16.9kpa so I was sooooo relieved to see it come down. I've heard lots of stories about livers repairing after successful treatment with the new hep c meds...good luck and congrats on getting rid of hep c x

Hi thanks for the encouraging news that the liver can possibly repair itself after hep c meds that has made me feel more positive. Congrats to u too for getting rid of hep c, you said u had blood when u was a baby & I was wondering if you have heard of the Skipton fund (now known as eibss) they are a scheme that help people with with hep c that received it via infected blood products & you could get ex gratia payments. X

Haha yes only too well but my medical records are 'absent from before 2003 so I'm one of the many that can't prove it (it helps keep the statistics low so the scandal looks less scandless I suppose!) ...I'm still trying to put my point across to eibss. I'd recommend a book called 'when spin kills' by Paul Desmond. Thanks :) x

By the way..I looked back at my notes and my highest score was 18.9 at one point x

Aw I'm really sorry that yr unable to prove it, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as my hematologist has been with me throughout my life due to my hemophilia, he was there when I had each of my four children & luckily for me I was able to ask for his help with the Skipton paperwork just before he retired. I'll look that book up too, thanks again. X
