I just received my liver biopsy report. Does anyone know why a liver biopsy report would say they found " rare plasma cells"? My doctor said NOTHING about this!! He said nothing diagnostic but a few abnormalities found. I am so confused.

I would have thought that referral to a consultant would be sensible because of the link between plasma cells in the liver and multiple myeloma
Thank you for replying. Your are right and the doctor did say he wants me to see a hematologist. When he called with my results ( they were looking for AIH) he said nothing diagnostic but they found a few abnormalities. I ask twice what are they but he did not answer. The doctor I felt was not being forthcoming with me. I ask to have report sent to me, a week later after not receiving it I call back and it was on this day they mail it out.
Imagine my shock when I get this report on a Saturday afternoon to read " rare plasma cells are present" doctor never informed me of this!!
I am so upset by the doctor, just everything really. I have appointment in the morning with hematologist, thank God for that.
I am in the states. Health care sucks in this country!
I am pleased that you have your haematology appointment. I guess they will be looking at the possible myeloma situation. I hope that goes well for you. It is sad that your primary care physician did not give you all the information and that you had to wait so long for the results. I am in the UK and can pick up results online as soon as the doctor gets them. Blood results can often be picked up the day of the tests or the following day. I am grateful for this NHS service.
