Hello, has anyone here ever had bloodwork come back with “few spur cells and few burr cells” for the RBC and WBC morphology? I’m calling his doctor tomorrow, just curious about it. Thank you.
Spur cells and burr cells : Hello, has... - British Liver Trust
Spur cells and burr cells
I’ve only read a few things so far (yeah I googled like an idiot) and nothing is good about it.
I was going to tell you please don't google it, I dont have experience with it in my bloodwork but have ran across it studying bloodwork in liver disease. I would definitely call and get an answer tomorrow
I shouldn’t have but I didn’t think it would be so scary. I’m definitely calling them tomorrow, thank you.
Yes call them ASAP xxxx
Please let me know how you get on. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
I will Lynne, thank you so much.
You are very welcome. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
Flipping heck wild, you really don’t want to have googled that! I did - well you “made” me didn’t you - 😑. It’s blurry complicated isn’t it. You really do need proper medical advice.
Hope your doctor can help but sounds a bit specialist to me?
Good luck.
Miles
I thought it would be “harmless” like an idiot. One thing says it shows up with alcoholic cirrhosis, the other says it’s rare. Just playing the waiting game with his GI now ugh. Thank you Miles.
I called his GI’s office but the lady who handles the messages and stuff is on vacations until August 12th. She said the messages won’t be checked while she’s away, what the shit. He has an endoscopy Thursday so I hope I see his doctor.
Hi, I looked it up and didn't really think it sounded so shocking. One cause is liver disease, cirrhosis also anemia (size or number haemoglobin in blood). It also mentions low platelets all of these things can be a direct result of cirrhosis, which you already know he has. I wouldn't be surprised if the Dr's just say its a likely consequence of his liver illness.
It also mentioned in the thing I read that it can be wrongly noted when the cells clump, or the sample hasn't been prepared well. So unless they recheck it and find them again, then fingers crossed it'll be nothing to worry about.
Try and keep positive, I can't tell you the amount of times I've had tests, scan reports with odd things I've brought up with Dr's and they've just said, we'll keep an eye on it but nothing to worry about!!
How is your partner getting on now? I hope he is well.
Take care

I read that too but when I dug a little deeper, which was stupid on my part, it said that people with alcoholic cirrhosis can get it and the prognosis isn’t good unless they receive a transplant. Now I could very well be wrong, I know a lot of things come into play with this and I am certainly no doctor. I really hope you’re right though.
He says he feels fantastic and he looks better and better as time goes on. The jaundice is pretty much gone from his eyes and he only sometimes has a bit of a yellow hue to his skin. His bilirubin is still high though and the ascites comes and goes. He has more energy than I do most days haha it’s been 214 days today since he was diagnosed and quit drinking. I hope that’s still considered early days and improvement can be had.
