Following my last ultrasound I became more convinced I don't have cirrhosis. The liver was smooth but fatty. My last cholesterol levels had come down from 10.7 to 9.4. My endoscopy was clear. My blood tests are unremarkable including afp except for showing persistently abnormal liver function tests. My fibroscan showed readings at cirrhosis function levels in terms of elasticity.
I am assuming that this means my spinal cord compression which I had for around 8+ years plus my spinal cord injury (incomplete) which I have had for just over 3 years, as the injury was slightly above my liver, has affected my livers ability to function properly in the same way it has affected everything else, internally as well as externally, below the injury. This combined with lifestyle issues around diet, pain relief and mobility appear to be my main problems for exacerbating my liver function difficulties.
I know that the only way I can help myself is to lose the weight and watch what I eat and drink. I also need to watch my meds as much as possible. I will continue to do what exercise I can.
What do you all think? There doesn't appear to have been much research into spinal cord injury and liver, they always concentrate on bowels and bladder and kidney stones.
