Firstly let me say sorry to hear your news. I can only assume that a recent diagnosis means that he will now come under the care of hospital. This is something that both you & hubby need to discuss with them. Since he's not had a drink in so long then he should be put forward for transplant testing. Again you need to discuss with your hospital as every case is unique. Hope this helps in some small way.xx
Hi Donna, sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis, I would think one of the first things his care team would be recommending is treating the hep c as the virus will be damaging his liver, you didnt mention what his fibro score is but I have heard that for many people the liver has repaired to a degree after successful treatment with the new drugs that are now available (it seems to be the case for me too), its probably worth giving the hep c trust guys a call for a chat if he hasn't already & you're in the UK. All the best
Hi
Sorry to hear about the diagnosis, it is a shock at first.
He will see a specialist regularly for monitoring but we can't give any medical advice as we aren't medically qualified.
You can download leaflets here ..
britishlivertrust.org.uk/pu...
Please avoid Google other than hospital or specialist sites such as The British Liver Trust.
You will see that diagnosis is a lot less scary than you think and is not the nightmare it used to bè.
I will say that should his condition get bad enough for a transplant he will need to be smoke free for 6 months so much as he feels he needs them now is time to cut back and stop.
You will find lots of support on here and there is nearly always someone who has gone through each stage he may experience.
We are all here for BOTH of you.

Hi
We are not able to give the kind of information you are asking for. You need to get that kind of help from his health professionals. They know the individual issues being faced by you both.
Being good over what we take into our bodies is really important. It can also be hard work for some of us. I do think it will become easier the longer we do it though. Exercise where you can seems to be the other biggy.
Try and get local support networks for yourselves. They can be really useful as well this site. A friend of mine has joined a couple of groups one for family carers one for alcohol related issues. I've also suggested this site to him as helpful for them. His wife has joined her own networks to help her. They have found this helpful to them both. For me I've been a family carer for many years I'm now getting the support from this group as the one with the health problems.
Best of luck to you both.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
As Rita and G have already said above, it is very important that you get specific guidance and information from your husbands own liver specialist. The liver specialist is best placed to be explaining about any treatment options for Hep C and what stage of cirrhosis your husband is in.
You may find some of our publications useful to read for additional information;
