Night vision.

Hey hey,

Does anybody have any issues with their night vision???

I've started noticing odd things!?! OK I'll try to explain. My bedroom door has a frosted glass panel. Normally with a light on downstairs I could see it. Now when I look directly at it I can't see a damn thing, if I glance down I can. Likewise I can't see my own hand in front of my face, at all, even if it's waving five inches away.

Sometimes I get what I can only describe as a black concave cloud covering about two thirds of my vision, in dim light, this is still visible for a short time when I turn a light on???

I think I'm right in thinking Vit A has to do with eye health and that maybe my liver isn't absorbing enough???

Any ideas?

Well I haven't had any issues with my eye sight? But I would defiantly see your doctor about it as that isn't right at all. I believe it can be one cause due to vitamin A deficiency but best to get bloods taken

I would definitely go to the optician asap, doesn't sound right at all and may have nothing to do with liver complaint.

when it comes to eyes don't mess with them!

it really be anything from getting older to a brain tumour get them tested asap

sounds like something is affecting your central vision. it is extremely important that that you go to the opticians or ring them immediately and explain what's happening. please don't leave it.... it doesn't matter if its not your usual optician but you must be seen ASAP.

don't want to worry you but I used to work in an opticians and this was symptoms that we would have fitted some one in straight away.

if no luck go to a and e.if it turns out to be a simple problem then better safe than sorry. please go this am. best wishes cazer.

MATTER OF FACT, YES. CANT SEE AT NIGHT AND CANT READ SMALL PRINT. THE ONLY CONNECTION BETWEEN EYES AND LIVER IS THAT A POSSIBILITY EXIST IS THE CONDITION MAY OR COULD BUILD UP COPPER IN EYES RESULTING DAMAGE OF THE EYES

Go to optician. Could be all sorts of things, but don't assume it's liver related. Worth having them check the inside of eye; a good optician will know all the signs.

Take care.

Hi,

Any problems with your vision should be assessed by a medical professional as soon as possible,

Warm wishes,

Rebecca

Thank you all for your responses, I've been up at Kings today with the TCs and have mentioned it to them. I'm seeing a optician tomorrow to get everything checked out. I'll let you know.

Well I've just been to the optician. I'd like to say he put my mind completely at rest and I feel much better. I mean he did all the tests and said my vision is fine and my eyes are healthy but that was about it. We had to push to try and get him to say anything. He gave no advice or offered any suggestions as to what could be causing it. I said my biggest concern is driving at night. He didn't seem particularly fussed. If it wasn't for my other half pushing him to refer me nowt would have been done other than pay for your test here please.

Not impressed. I mean it might all be nothing and that's why he isn't concerned but to not offer any suggestions or advice or to even say if it doesn't improve in a month come back.

Hmmmmmmmm. Well I'll wait for my GP who is very nice and helpful but I can't imagine will be able to do any more than possibly a blood test and/or a referral to someone else.

For now I'm left feeling my way to the toilet in the middle of the night.

did optician do field check... little lights that you click a button ehen you see one. also pressure check and look at back of eye? cazer.

They took pictures of the back of my eyes and the puff of air pressure thing. I don't think I did a field test, no clicking of buttons when I see something. 👀

cazer profile image
cazer

puff of air is pressure check screens for glaucoma butwould show raised pressure if a problem... so hopefully that's out of the way.

surprised no field check.... it plots where you can see in relation to the theback of eye... maybe theres a new machine... its 18yrs since I was able to work due to p. b. c.

did you mention the looking down to see and blur in middle?

cazer profile image
cazer

is this both eyes or does it go when you cover one.... give yourself a few minutes after covering one eye at time for eye to accustomise to light/dark.

did you list all symptoms?

Thanks Cazer you're a real help and comfort.

I said everything I put on my original post. Not sure if it's both eyes or not I'll try checking tonight. I don't think it's a constant thing either. Some nights seem worse than others.

Ive become a right hypochondriac, makes me paranoid that I'm reading too much into the slightest things and that maybe it's just all in my head.

Thanks again

Mark

don't think you are fussing overnothing.... its just finding cause... some eye probcan fluctuate so difficult to explain them.

all i would say is that if you get flashy lights or cobwebby type vision go somewhere immediately e. g optician... or a. e as these symptoms can indicate problems atback of eye that quite often treatable but only if done promptly.

other thing have you been checked for diabetes as unstable sugar can affect eyesight greatly and improves once sugarstable.

hope you see consultant soon... keepus in touch. b. e. cazer.

Oh that is the other thing he said was to test sugar levels but then didn't say how or where to get this done. Grrrrrrr

I get flashing lights at night when my eyes are shut and open. Normally they are like everdecreasing circles of lights. Last night was a new one though I got a flickering flashing light.

Cobwebby? Think I know what you mean. Eyes are odd aren't they trying to explain symptoms cause it's so perceptive from the individual.

Ta again.

sugar levels can be checked with practice nurse... if you say opt has recommended that they will do it.

cazer profile image
cazer

how soon you seeing consultant? if ages go and see gp. x

Identity75 in reply tocazer

Optician is referring to my GP, how long that will take is anyone's guess. I'd imagine he'll put a letter in the post today. GP maybe get it tomorrow but more likely Monday now. And then maybe a few days to get an appt.

who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm not worried. What's the worst that can happen. (Cazer don't answer that lol)

cazer profile image
cazer

thats funny way.... not eye consultant then?

cazer profile image
cazer

also did I see from your posts that you have collitus.... this can affect the eyes... do you see a consultant for this... ifyou contact this consultants secretary then he/she might be able to give some advice and speed up the process.

sorry to keep on but I feel you have not got any proper answers. good luck with it i will stop going on now. cazer

Morning Cazer, yes I have colitis too. I had corrective eye laser last year, I told the optician this. Other than that and prior normal optician for when I wore glasses I have never seen anyone else.

I tried to see if it was just one eye or both last night as you suggested but couldn't see any difference between the two.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Am sure it'll get sorted.

cazer profile image
cazer

hope you can get to the bottom of it....

i think you should be asking to see a consultant in the eye department... as you have a lot of different things going on... the lazer surgery itself might be causing some symptoms... good luck and keep us in touch. xxcazer

Just did an online field vision test and was fine. Lol

How do you even test for night vision??? Bright lights I can see fine. I can see the standby light on the telly for example. Oh I don't know. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Think I've just realised just how bad my eyes are. We are having a little cheeky getaway in a caravan in Wales. Got up this morning 1st as normal. Unfamiliar surroundings. Couldn't see a damn thing except maybe half an inch down and half an inch up. Baby stepping round a bloody caravan with my hands outstretched tilting my head up and down just to try and get some "forward" vision!!!

Glad nobody was filming me.

I've started taking vit A in the meantime to see if that helps at all.
