Hi I had a fibroscan 23rd Dec last year and it was 8.9, I had a fibroscan last week and it was 12.2, should I be worried about these results?

Yes; i think so; are you under a Hepotologist/Liver specialist ? Has anything been diagnosed?

What other tests have you had? x

Hi, yes I'm under a liver specialist. I have been diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver, stage 3 fibrosis of the liver and non infectious hepatitis. I've started last week the regenerate clinical trial - I'm really hoping I don't have the placebo. I'm only 36 and didn't really have any liver issues until I had a hysterectomy last April xx

Sorry to hear this Clare; maybe the regenerate trial will be a positive thing for you; in the meantime, its good you have a specialist; ask the specialist all the questions about your condition and what it all means for you and the future. Good luck and best wishes. xx

Thank you, I also forgot to mention I had a liver biopsy 6weeks ago which confirmed it. I'm so scared i will end up having the placebo and with it being a blind trial I probably won't find out till the end of the trial which lasts 6 years. I have no idea what the long term prognosis is of this disease. I've just had enough of being ill all of the time xxx

Claire, ok you have a diagnosis of NAFLD and I am guessing with you saying stage 3 fibrosis and also that you've been accepted on to the Regenerate Trial (which others can read about here :- nash-study.com/ ) that you are verging on a diagnosis of NASH.

Well done on signing up for the trial - you are going to be well monitored as you go forward and they will be monitoring what is happening with your liver so if any worsening was happening they could step in deal with it appropriately.

I can understand you being scared about only getting the placebo (you've a 1 in 3 chance you might get the placebo) HOWEVER if you were not on this trial you wouldn't be getting anything at all to treat your fatty liver and would just be advised to follow the guidelines for looking after your liver, eating healthily, no alcohol, exercise more, reduce salt, sugars and fats in your diet. All guidance that is available via the British Liver Trust site at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/li...

SO, you've a 2 in 3 chance you are getting the trial medication which they hope will help your liver and if you tie that in with following the accepted guidance for caring for a liver with NAFLD then you should be able to prevent your condition worsening and indeed help it to reverse.

Good luck, hopefully you'll be another of those who can come back in a few months time to report that your next fibroscan and biopsy are vastly improved.

All the best, Katie
