Hi I would like to hear from anyone who has suffered with the following symptoms:- here goes Back in October I was taken to A&E with terrible chest pains and vomiting all the routine test were done and they said it was acid reflux and was prescribed lansoprazole 15mg after taking this for 2 weeks I felt no better was unable to eat or sleep so went back to my GP who then upped the dose and said to return in 2 weeks. 2 weeks passed no improvement and by this time I lost a stone in weight I was also experiencing a pain in my right side under the ribs and in my back when eating. I have had all the blood tests in creation all come back as normal so was starting to think it is all in my mind. Anyway since then I have had ultra sound to check gallstones which showed up nothing even though I am still suffering after each meal. I had an endoscopy 2 days which has shown up an extrinsic compression in the lumen so now need to go for a CT. I am worried now what might be found, if there is anyone who has had the same symptoms please share your advice, thanks in advance.
Help I cant eat: Hi I would like to hear... - British Liver Trust
Help I cant eat
Hello Harris,
You sound like you're not having a good time right now.
I'm wondering why you are asking in a forum usually used for problems / concerned with the liver. Are you worried that it might be liver related ?
To be honest the only thing that springs to mind is constipation. You would find if you are on this forum for any length of time, that's a pretty common ailment.
In the meantime,
Take care,
Jim
Hi Jim,
Thanks for your reply but it's unlikely to be constipation. I omitted to say that there's a strong chance it could be cancer. I lost my father to liver cancer he was only 42 and both my brothers have also been cursed with the big C one having survived bowel cancer and the other kidney cancer. I am hoping that the mass which is pressing on my oesophagus is just a cyst so fingers crossed on the CT scan. I used this forum as I have found it helpful but if this is the wrong one then I apologise, and will no longer use it to post anything more.
Regards

Please don't turn away, there are some good people with helpful advice on here. I was like you earlier this year and scared witless what was happening.
There are so many things it could be and second guessing only drives you insane. Try to stay calm and wait for the CT results, I know it's easier said than done. Just try to take each day as it comes.
Up until the point you said there were no gall stones I was going to say your symptoms sounded like mine when I had them. I've also been in you r situation where everybody has said it sounds like gall stones, until I point out that I've been there and have no gall bladder. I eventually got a private consultation because I was going crazy while I waited for the NHS appointments. This was a godsend and they took much more care and found the cause, it wasn't quite what I'd hoped but it wasn't cancer.
I hope you get some help and some good answers quickly. And just ignore the negativity that always finds its way out. X
Thanks Cathy for your kind reply, I am trying to stay positive more so for my family.
Hi Harris52
I am genuinely sorry to hear the ordeal you are experiencing with your health and very much hope that you get some answers very soon as to the cause of your symptoms so that the correct treatment can begin.
Cathy has given very good advice from her own personal experience and knows only too well how the mind can drive you insane with worry.
Having lost your father to liver cancer as well as family members to other cancers, your concerns are understandable but please do try to remain positive. I appreciate that is easier said than done, however, the stress of worry will only exacerbate your symptoms further.
I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your much needed answers and that your results are positive.
In the meantime, there is a lot of support available here, don't be afraid to use it.
Take care
Thank you Jaqui, I will continue to use this forum and will hopefully be posting some good news in the near future, your kind words are most appreciated.
My pleasure 😊
I wish you and your family a peaceful Christmas and hope the new year brings you peace of mind and positive results.
Take care, Jacqui

Wishing you all the very best, please let us know how you get on Harris.
Kind regards Jeanie x
extrinsic compression in the lumen sounds like something is causing a narrowing of your intestines somewhere - could be an ulcer or could be something like a mass. Hopefully the CT will diagnose the problem.
Hang in there could be anything until your tests come backbthink positive there are so many treatable conditions that cause similar symptoms, let us know what comes up with the tests.
Hi Harris52, Sorry to hear of your problems and I know what it is like to wait for NHS appointments but to be honest when I finally got a diagnosis they moved very fast, just to late. You are having very similar symptoms to a relation of mine who refused to go the doctors. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you and hope it turns out well.
Hope things are moving now for you. Pls let us know how you get on. Merry Christmas 🎄 and a very Happy and healthy 2017 xx
Thank you Sheri I get my CT on the 29th so fingers crossed everything will be a positive outcome. Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy healthy New Year.
Hoping for a Positve outcome for you with your scan.
Good luck & Merry Christmas 🎄
Is it hard to swallow food, painful ??
Hi Phil, I'm able to swallow but it feels like its stuck half way and causes a pain in my back. I then have to drink something warm to try to release it, sometimes it makes me cough and then I start to vomit. This happens mainly if I eat meat. Do you suffer with the same problem?
It sounds a bit like achalasia, I hope I spelt that right. Google it and let me know, if you don't mind
Hi Phil thank you for your reply, It does seem it could be that. I am being treated for acid reflux there is also something pressing in on my oesophagus which I am having a CT scan for next week. Will let you know how I get on hope you are well and have a lovely Christmas.
A mate of mine had it, he has had the op and is back to normal. The op is nothing,in one day, out the next.
All the best and have a good time over the holiday.Phil
