Good morning everybody. I am another new knocking to your door. I was diagnosed with Hep C in last August before start my uni course. Don"t want to talk about shock and other emotions. But now I discover myself without any financial support. I stopped working due to start my full time education. I am not receiving any bursary because they suspended me from clinical placement. My first appointment with gastro consultant on 16th Nov. Feeling frustrated and annoyed. Is it any link I can get some lnfo about financial support ?

What do you mean by "I am not receiving any bursary because they suspended me from clinical placement." Are you in the US?
In the UK I'd be surprised if you got any financial help directly for having hep C. It's more about if you became so ill that you are simply unable to work or study, in which case you might qualify for Employment and Support Allowance. If you needed help on a daily basis you might get some extra with Personal Independence Payment.
I am wondering, is there a way you can postpone your course to return to in future? You should have some sort of Student or Occupational Welfare department that you can go to for guidance. I have heard of other folks delaying their studies because different things occurred during their course. This shouldn't be the end of your NHS career.
Hopefully when you received treatment for your Hep C and gotten the all clear (I don't know how this works or how 'poorly' you have to be before they fund the treatment but you should push for it - I take it you are a young person with a full life ahead of you so you need this treatment). You've obviously not struggled with your studies so I am assuming you are fairly symptom free and the Hep C would not stop you actually gaining employment. Perhaps in the interim you could claim Job Seekers Allowance with a view to securing alternative employment until you have the all clear and can return to your studies and clinical work.
If your illness doesn't actually prevent you from working (in other fields than your clinical work) then you probably wouldn't qualify for ESA and if you can cope day to day without assistance or care then PIP wouldn't be applicable.
Seek out your occupational health or welfare department and see where you go from here & on 16th November push for the Hep C treatments so you get treated and can hopefully resume your studies and NHS work.
Thank you, Katie. I did not have any symptoms. And don"t have now. I suspect had gotten it from needle stick injury. But it difficult to prove it now. Also my alcohol consumption was very low and I completely stopped drinking now. So desperate to go back to my study. And I enjoy my nursing so much !
As a student nurse there are two options available for you to get advice, support and in some cases financial aid.
I would hope that you are already a member of the Royal College of Nursing.
They should be able to advise and also act on your behalf in your in whatever way you want to go forward.

Sign on using the online service hun job centre plus will then help you understand other benefits. Also if youre not I'll with symptoms it's a good time of year to get a retail or postie job. Good luck, once you're clear you can go back to nursing, it won't be long x
