I have had right quadrant pain for a year which feels bruised when I press on it from under my brain to under right ribcage which wraps around my back. Today it feels really bruised like I've been hit with a football very tender to touch. My liver showed normal size on ultrasound what does liver pain feel like?

Bruised ribs????
Hi, when I get liver pain it is just under my right ribcage (where the ribs stop) and is a stabbing, throbbing pain. Used to get it all the time when I drank alcohol. I also used to get what I called liver cramp. When I turned round sharply I would literally get cramp in the muscle of the liver and be stuck in that position until the pain went. Could you have gallstones? I have them so sometimes I dont know if its my liver or my gallbladder that hurts.
Can't think of anything else.

I am not medically qualified but I would go and consult your gp your health is the most important thing to you
Oh auto correct bra line
Am I right in thinking you have had ultrasound scan and various tests which show your liver and gallbladder are fine? How is your digestive system as a whole? Any problems with certain foods, any food allergies, how is your diet, your weight, your bowel habits?
Hi bolly I have ibs but its definitely not that. My eating habits are OK and I am normal weight. This tenderness is driving me nuts yes I had 2 ultrasounds and labs. I know they say they say that e liver feels no pain and it's the sac surrounding it. They saw no fatty liver or liver enlargement it was 12.5. I don't know what else in that area would cause so much tenderness in that are and with my drinking habits this is why I worry
I was hospitalised for a month in July with acute viral hepatitis.... On going monitoring for possible autoimmune hepatitis and I'm still in as much pain most of the time, as I was in hospital so sympathise greatly. I don't know if the pain is the same for everyone but my liver/gall bladder pain is a deep sickening pain that's hard to ignore and is also a horrible sensation that depresses me, can't explain it any better sorry.
Hi Linzenilss22
I have the same pain, sometimes when I eat certain things eg chocolate, citrus. Sometimes when I do a bit of upper body exercise or too much gardening or cleaning. I had my gallbladder out 15 years ago; no stones just inflammation and a bit of sludge. I too was told the Liver cannot suffer pain. Suggestions from the Dr's are maybe small stones in the bile duct, inflammation or organs sticking together and being ripped. I now am very careful and slow when doing exercise and try to wear loose clothing. Dr's just shrug their shoulders. I've been putting up with it but if you still have your gallbladder I would ask for further tests. Good luck.
