I have NASH. I have an long term injury from a road accident. I was about to be prescribed amitripalene but red markers flashed on the doctors screen and I was advised I couldn't have it due to my liver. I'll be interested to know other people's experiences on this.

I am taking Amitriptyline I take 10gm to 20gm a night to help sleep.I have chronic back pain ofter 3 operations for disc problems. I now have a nerve stimulator fitted in my back.I also have fatty liver.

If I can't take more than 1. 20gm tablet I start to shake. Constipation can be a big problem taking Amitriptyline.

I wonder if it's a problem taking it with having fatty liver ...

Hi there, Amytriptaline is given as a sedative and sometimes given to elderly people

to manage some pain issue's. I believe they are a phsycotropic-drug. I have taken them in the past where I was given them to help relax and sleep but they made me feel horrible in the mornings because I couldn't wake up.I never had any energy from taking them and that was before I had Cirrhosis. Also not good if you have liver problems.

I was given Amytriptaline to help me sleep with osteoporosis. I have cirrhosis, chronic Hep B and AiH and the GP and hepatologist were ok with prescribing it. I was prescribed 10mg which knocked me to the floor, so reduced to 5mg which was better but like scotty they made me quite dopey in the mornings. However I'm no longer taking it as decided exercise and treatment from a chiropractor would be better for my skeleton than a sedative, and feel much better for not taking it!

Body pain and stiffness seems to go with chronic liver disease and though it may sound contrary, gentle exercise especially in the fresh air (like walking a dog) does help with the pain, the stiffness and ultimately might help your depression.

Thanking all of you for your reply on taking Amitriptyline, in my case it helps me sleep and to some degree with pain. Doctors know of my fatty liver and elevated readings I tried to stop taking them put was exhausted and tearful, I was advised not to stop taking them but having trust issues now about advice given which isn't like me but at the moment not sure of anything the Doctor tells me.
