Hi, my husband is on 200mgs spiro. They want to up it because of his acities but are checking his blood for sodium levels (Na) first as they were a bit low last time. They do regular blood tests checks to protect the kidney's. Hope this helps.....:)

Hello, my mum was on 200 spiro and her kidneys were just about coping. 2 weeks later she was admitted into hospital with dangerously high potassium and had 6 days of treatment to bring her levels down. We were told that this is likely to be the effect on the kidneys of taking the water tablets. She has been taken off spiro altogether and will need regular drains for her ascites. I think the key here is to make sure he has regular blood tests which should pick up anything.
