The good news in this is that you are going to be put on the transplant list. Clearly, however, you have lots of questions and it might be a good idea to a) write them down and b) take someone with you when you next see the specialist. Hope all goes well.

It is a good suggestion to write a list beforehand. You only see a doctor for a short time and, if you're like me, you'll forget something important.

You have been put on the transplant list which is good news. I assume you are not taking alcohol and you need to continue as drinking will only exasserbate your problem. Your position on the list will not be revealed as this depends on several factors, blood group, your health condition compared to others on the list are examples. I had a transplant and waited 18 months before I was successful although I know of others who only waited a few weeks so I was unfortunate and I believe I was close to expiring. Try to be patient and always ready for the call. This will come at short notice as a liver has only a few hours viability out of the deceased persons body. Good luck and remain positive all the time. Eat small meals but more often as your damaged liver cannot process the products as quickly as normal. Also, try to take part in your everyday life as much as you can, I did although near the end of my wait I my mental capacity was very poor.
