Hi Tinabean

Would love to join this group but am wary of doing so because I do not know enough about the protection of identity and confidentiality aspects.

I donn't know very much about computors and things like facebook and twitter etc but I have been told that while you can protect identity etc if you are just a browser of Facebook as soon as you become someones friend or sign up to a group other members can inadvertantly let your personal details be known when they are viewing other things outside the group and or communicating with facebook friends etc.

Is this correct? Is so how do you protect your personal details and e-mail etc going outside a group even if it is denoted as a closed group?

Apologies for being an absolute dummy on these matters

I feel the same findasolution. I've managed thus far to avoid facebook, twitter, the 'social network' sites. I'd rather not go there, I'm much too much of a private person, and feel that 'big brother' knows enough without me sharing my everything with the whole world. Don't apologise, it seems today everybody and their budgie has to know everything, I've heard too many horror stories in the news, and around me. Good luck though, if you choose to go there, and thanks anyway Tinabean.

You can change your settings on your profile to make everything you do private, personally i have not had a problem with security on facebook, i have not put my email or phone number on my profile either, i only use my email for signing in.
