Hi there. Some 17 years ago I was on the ribavirin/interferon treatment. The interferon, I found, is awful. The only way I could cope with it is by pretending I had 'flu for 12 months. From what my consultant said, that's not far off the truth as the body releases a similar compound when infected with the 'flu. So it can cause high temperatures, deleriums, lack of empathy short-tempered and snappy and tiredness. It also causes the platelet cound to drop. Stick with it though if you can; I was pronounced clear of HVC after a year of treatment and have lived a normal life up until the last year. Good luck and warn friends and relatives of your mood swings lol

Hi, Thank you for your information. I hope your health has sustained and you do not have any long-termed health issues due to the interferon. Yeah, I am worried about being able to endure such a long period of feeling ill as I feel well 99% of the time right now, though my Fibroscan shows my liver in intermediate stages of scarring so I really need to think about treatment. I am pleased you cleared the virus and lead a normal life or at least in relationship to the HCV... With these new interferon free drugs on the horizon it is so tempting to wait...I wonder if my liver agrees?

Hi art. This is a really good site with lot of fantastic people. However if you don't get as much information as you would like from answers here, there is a support forum for HCV treaters at

hepcnomads.co.uk/phpBB3/ind...

If you register there you can access a section called On Treatment Boceprevir (Victrelis) And Telaprevir (Incivo, Incivek) which is specifically for patients with Geno type 1 on the new PIs.

Are you currently on treatment or about to start?

Hi, thanks for the link...it is superb...I am considering treatment (triple) very seriously but with the new drugs on the horizon, I am so tempted to wait as they are interferon free. I have had HCV for years, and on the face of it, you would never guess I had liver damage..Fibroscan 10. on one and the last one was at 8 six months later after a very strict diet control and using milk thistle. However, without a biopsy, you can never be sure about beginning stages of HCC, for example.

Have you done the treatment with interferon?

How stenuous is the medical assessment that you undergo to see if you can be put on the liver transplant list?

My husband is having the medical assessment for potential liver transplant next week.
