Hello everyone, I hope you are all well….wow, wow, wow? What about this weather? It’s been extremely tricky out there…my mojo has gone for a wander AGAIN, so my quest has been absolutely rubbish this first week…I started off so well & then the snow started and I had my perfect excuse…how about you? Are you still on track? Have you all been running in this crazy weather? I hope you’re all managing to stay warm at home and nobody has ended up on the injury couch?
As many of you know, I’m a driving instructor so I have been skidding around the streets teaching my pupils how to drive properly, having fun in the snow and ice but that’s about as much as I’ve done…finish work…tea, shower, jamas & bed…no running, no nothing…so my RED quest has not been very successful 😖 …I’m feeling I might need some inspiration from my band of questers….?! Tell me how you’re doing…I am dying to hear how your quest is going…
Did anyone join Missunderstanding’s new 10k group? Here’s the link if you’re wanting to increase your distance
Here’s hoping for a better week 2 for me…and better weather for you all so you can keep on questing!
For any newbies, here’s an introduction to the Quest…
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
You need to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured, according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like: “I would like to join the quest”, or, “count me in! I would like to...”
Any questions, just ask! Come and say hi 👋….we want to know what you're aiming for!
Happy questing everyone

This weather has absolutely upended, ( quite literally for some forum friends), running activities.
My motivation is there, but the actual physical running activity, well that is hiding under inches of ice and snow.
So... Quest.. Hmmm.
: Continue with Red January, That is happening but now the activities are all indoors and include:
: YWA January... ENERGY. I am doing that every day although I was one day behind with the Prana, Day 10 today !
: Core and strength work... continuing and loads of that going on. Not always conventional activities, and including workouts, clearing snow and thick ice from the car or the walkways. Currently doing all the chores at home whilst Mr OF is out of action.
: Mindfulness: Paramount for me right now. Mr OF and his ongoing issues, mean that I need to try, without overthinking or pressure to stay true to my resolution NOT to try to be too strong, but to do what I am able, when I am able and to accept that there are some things which I simply cannot change.
The way I handle them. Yes.
So... weird goals for me and, I will not give myself a hard time if things fall away sometimes.
We are all doing our best, let's remember that and be kind to...ourselves.
Oldfloss …whatever you manage to do is just perfect…I know you’ll enjoy what the time spent with your indoor activities …but I think the main part of your quest is your mindfulness…you are important….thats what you say to me all the time so I’m saying it right back to you…❤️
I should think that teaching driving in this conditions could give you an adrenalin rush to last a lifetime! A young GM had a 'fun' spin (car and he OK)
I set some slightly different goals to highlight for this quest... which has been just as well as there's been no walking or running between the snow and lingering bug. I live on a steep hill and have had quite a few disagreeable vehicular experiences so decided to define 'need' to go out very carefully. The yoga has mainly been classes in which I have fallen asleep (out like a light well before 8pm) Most of my progress has been of a preparatory nature - looking up availability of eye tests and such like. My hands, feet and lips are moisturised, my weight hasn't rocketed as I can see it did this time last year, despite entering the period of eating up creativity - vegan pigs in blankets with guacamole dip for lunch yesterday.
I love that snowman! Someone did a cat and I just can't think why there's not more general creativity around building snow figures.
We are returning The Boy today so thank you for the local weather update, even though it isn't good news. I've done the return journey at night in some difficult fog so you've lent power to my elbow to turf all involved out of bed. I am crazy sleepy at the moment myself, not sure if the bug's gone but resting HR back to normal so perhaps just after effects.
Vegan/vegetarian sausages are like meat sausages really in that different people like different ones. Usually much lower in fat so you've to take that into account in the cooking (and definitely not overcook) We like Quorn bangers best. (I went big on pigs in blankets (vegetarian and meat) this year... all gone now: topped a broccoli and Dovedale cheese soup, and served with cranberry sauce and melted )
🍏🤣🧊🥶 ⛄️ Well that snowman & title to your lovely Quest absolutely made my day!!! Thank you Mummycav
My quest is simple.. to keep on doing the things that will help me run again. I am presently like many waiting for specialised physio appointments. However I am trying to get out safely with hubby every day for a walk, continue with some suitable Pilates & enjoy a Mediterranean Diet..
K eep on teaching your learners how to drive in these treacherous conditions. They will be forever grateful! ☺️ Hopefully as the warmer weather kicks in next week your Mojo will return!! Enjoy your run! Xx
I knew you’d like the snowman Annieapple , I think I need to be a bit more creative when I next build a snowman…I did a tiny one on my wall outside, he was very cute…I’ll attach a pic…
I’m hoping you’re managing to get out in the fresh air…it’s good for the soul even if it’s freezing, your Mediterranean diet sounds super healthy!
I’ve had some real fun this week…I never had any driving lessons before I took my test so no-one taught me how best to drive in the snow and I’ve so I’ve just learnt over the years & I have never been stuck yet (touching wood)
I hope my mojo is waiting in the snow outside my door when the weather picks up 🤞🏼 x
Love the snowman! I'm still on my daily RED plods. Really enjoying it and soooo pleased I bought myself a chest light from good old Aldi middle aisle. Makes such a difference to my afterword runs!
Take care and hope you get chance to get out again when you're ready..
Life has intervened for me this week, family matters. The weather would probably have stopped me anyway. Here's to next week, hoping that normality will return.
Lucky I made a Resolution not to beat myself up about stuff like this 😁
I haven’t quite started running yet, but I have a plan! Ok … ok, I have a few plans, each one more exciting than the other one.
My (too long!!! 😤) recovery from flu is going well, finally no coughing anymore, so think I’m good to go forward full steam.
Rowing: just finished a 6-day Build Me Up plan to get back to fitness. (Rowing always starts earlier than running). So next is the start to a 12 week HALF MARATHON ROWING PLAN!!! WOOAHH!!!
Walking: did a few walks here and there, both on treadmill and outside. But I’ve programmed into my treadmill my 4 week walking plan that will get me used to walking at 3 degrees incline for 30 min. I was halfway through this before XMAS, when flue hit our household. And of course we have a #Walk2Forage challenge ongoing on A10 which surely will get me out there!
Other Cross Training: I have just finished the 8-day YWA PRANA series of yoga session, which was fab! Today I took my bicycle out since a long time, as one of my 2025 resolutions is to cycle more again. Yey! Today was the start! I also have a plan to do more Rope Flow as a warmup exercise snack before walking or running!
Lastly but least, Running: I’ve got a 6 week plan all ready to break open once the ice has receded. It’s the quickest plan I could find to get me back to 30min running, and I’ll start this coming week or the one after! Plan in pic!
Hi CBDB …good to hear that you’re finally managing to shake off that dreaded flu…well done with your rowing, do you do that at the gym or have you got a rowing machine? It’s really good that you can programme your walks into your treadmill, that would def work for me and well done blowing the dust off your bike! Again, that’s another thing I need to get back to, although not in this weather!!
I like the look of your running plan too…there’s all sorts of plans about isn’t there? I’m sure you’ll nail it in those 6 weeks 💪
Thank you. Yes, we got a 2nd hand rower a few year before covid. It’s been a game changer but specifically doing Covid lockdowns it was really great to have one at home. (Gym machines and their rails are also seldom cleaned enough )
Here in the south of England we have not suffered with the same cold temperatures and snowy icy conditions as you and other questers.
Just back from my second run of the week, and that is two of the Week 8 runs in the bag now. I'm so glad that this comeback round I have kept going with the program. Last time through I finished Wk 6 then stuck to interval running to train for my 10k event. This time around those 'longer' continuous runs are increasingly do-able and my stamina and confidence is growing.
Yoga has been happening daily. Yet to do one today, but now I have posted this, I will aim to fit in a short practice to stretch out.
I have lost a stone in weight since August! Been using Michael Moseley's 16:8 intermittant fasting method.
Been reading my book before settling down in bed, and think this has helped me to get more sleep.
Hoping the weather is kinder for everyone next week. Love the yogi snowman! and those you have all been building.
You are lucky you haven’t had the low temperatures Bluebirdrunner it’s been proper cold!! It will feel positively tropical in Wed when it’s supposed to reach 10 degrees!! Well done you for sticking with the programme…I always seem to get half way and then stop again…but, when this weather has cleared up & we can get back to some sort of normality, I’m going for it again…might not start at week 1 but I’m going to get to the end wherever I start…
I’m intrigued by your intermittent fasting…what does 16:8 mean? I’ve thought about fasting before but I don’t know how to go about it …sounds like it’s def working for you…I bet you look and feel fantastic 😍
Mr Bbr and I have both been following the 16:8 plan. It means fitting our meals into an eight hour window. So, as we like breakfast (granola, fruit, yoghurt) better than lunch, we have been eating this at around midday, then having our main meal finished by 8pm.
After 8pm no more calories til next lunchtime. But still able to have a coffee and snack in the afternoon, so it doesn't feel like you are denying yourself.
We sometimes have a peppermint tea in the evening if we want a hot drink.
I don't miss having a sandwich at all, some days we have a salad at midday or omlette instead of the homemade granola.
I don't run first thing, so am not going out on empty, not really good to run on an empy stomach.
Just steadily losing weight as having less calories over the day. As you lose the pounds your will power gets stronger and snack choices better too!
I do feel better, still could shed a bit more though, its crept on over the years. 😊
