Welcome to a new month of questing! Itโ€™s going to be a good one and Iโ€™m excited to see whatโ€™s ahead.

The sun has set on April and risen on May! For any Coach B fans, you might recognise the quote in the title. When ever you cross a finish line, itโ€™s the starting line of your next journey. Something to celebrate but also time to look forward and make new plans. Have you just finished Couch to 5k and youโ€™ve started post c25k life? Have you completed a plan and youโ€™re about to start something new? Maybe youโ€™ve decided that you want to shake up your running and youโ€™re ready to move outside your comfort zone? Even if youโ€™re aiming to keep your running consistent, youโ€™re still moving forwards every time you run. So what are you going to choose as your new starting line as April finishes and May begins? Where do you want to finish this month?

Iโ€™m starting from a great April quest. I ran consistently and hit some milestones I havenโ€™t reached in a long time. All super positive except Iโ€™ve now got a cold and have had a few days feeling sub par. Typical! My headline goal for the month is to get back to 10 miles for the HU10. That should be doable. Iโ€™ll be finishing the NIke Run Club 10k plan this week (cold depending!) and then switching on to their Half Marathon plan. Iโ€™m excited! My other goals are to stay consistent at 3 or 4 runs a week, keep up with strength and flex and cross training (swimming and Zumba!). The same as every month really!

So where is this new start line going to finish for you this month? Come and share your goals and weโ€™ll cheer you on!

For any newbies, hereโ€™s what itโ€™s all about:

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

You need to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:

โ˜… To run three times a week

โ˜… To slowly increase distance

โ˜… To train for a specific race

โ˜… To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like: โ€œI would like to join the questโ€, or, โ€œcount me in! I would like to...โ€

Any questions, just ask! Come and say hi!

Hi MissUnderstanding , I'm exhausted reading about how much you achieved in April!! Well done you, looking forward to reading about your 10k and 10 mile achievements :) Onwards and upwards.

My Quest feels pretty pedestrian by comparison. I'm going away later in the month but until then the goal is to keep running 3 times a week, doing a short run, a longer run and a speed run. Once I go away the aim will be no less than once a week.

I was listening to the BBC Pacesetter Marathon soundtrack, very inspiring (for my 3k run ๐Ÿ˜‚) and came up with the idea of running the marathon distance over the whole of the month of May. 3.15 down, 39.05 to go, sounds doable? (looks much better when the total is under 40).

Happy Questing :)

PS I don't think I've ever been the first person to post on a Quest before :) :)

Congratulations on being here first!! ๐Ÿ†. Thanks for the lovely good wishes too. Thatโ€™s cheered me up while Iโ€™m still a bit full of cold.

Your quest sounds super-that consistent pattern is such a good one and absolutely nothing pedestrian about at all. Canโ€™t wait to hear how you get on! Will you be doing NRC speed runs or going rogue?

Have a wonderful quest!

Gotta do the NRC speed runs otherwise how will I know what to do? I need Coach Cory or Coach B whispering in my ear or I just won't bother lol. Having said which I did a little sprint at the end of my run today as I wanted to be home for breakfast!!

Brilliant post MissUnderstanding and great photo, beautiful sky!

So for me in this first week of the merry month of May Iโ€™m looking to

Run 3 x week.

Concentrate on increasing my distance.

Carry on with my training for my 5k in May.

So as Iโ€™ve fallen on the first hurdle already Iโ€™m hoping that next week will improve. Today I was supposed to get out however when I woke up this morning I had a blocked ear which was uncomfortable. I have since sorted but it aches at the moment.

Tomorrow I hope the rain will stay away long enough for me to go for a run after Iโ€™ve gone to vote. Iโ€™m not holding my breath though ,but my fingers are crossed.

So you see into May already and Iโ€™ve yet to get off the starting blocks! โ€ฆโ€ฆ..thereโ€™s still time my inner voice tells me๐Ÿ˜‚โ€ฆโ€ฆ.I hope so !๐Ÿ‘xx

Thanks for hosting and happy questing everyone!๐Ÿ˜‚x

The weatherโ€™s been a bit of a washout hasnโ€™t it!! Letโ€™s hope for sunshine-it makes everything a lot nicer! Great goals and Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll tick them off. Are you following a specific plan for 5k or going your own way? Both of those are good options!

Hope itโ€™s a great month of questing!

FolkylassAdministrator in reply to MissUnderstanding

Thanks MissUnderstanding. No Iโ€™m not really following a specific plan for my 5k. Iโ€™m running two small runs and then on a Sunday Iโ€™m running a long run. It would be nice though if the weather was better.

I did get out this morning and I might go out on Saturday but Iโ€™ll be definitely out on Sunday.๐Ÿฅฐxx

I'm in, I'm in and your suggestion of the finish line of last month being very much the launch pad for the goals of this month is very appropriate for me.

So here we go:

1) A 5K for a hedgehog medal

2) Lose 1kg weight

3) Do some yoga every day

4) Complete an Ekhart yoga programme

5) Get the 'Perfect Week' badge on the Active 10 app (that's 10+ minutes brisk walking per day

6) Explore all the nooks and crannies of my local small ForestryEngland wood where Forest Holidays intended to put lodges, cafรฉ and shop in it. We already know from an event that there are several issues they hadn't considered and I want my comments to be spot on.

I've a few challenges to all of that that - a lot of my walks are led dementia walks with my mother and those are not brisk walking, we're going away this weekend for a precise break just MrGM and me, and then we'll be into helping a YoungGM and his fiancรฉe into their new home and supporting YoungerGM with his art exhibition. But it should be do-able.

Those sounds like great achievable goals. Iโ€™m intrigued by a hedgehog medal!! Really good luck with that and make sure you post a picture!

Whether your walks are brisk or not, theyโ€™re still valuable and especially so since youโ€™re supporting your mother. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

I am in the Quest please. The aim is to start training this month for a 5K competition run which is for October later this year and for which I have just enrolled a few days ago. Have not been able to do any running since December last year so I will have to take it easy at first.

How exciting for you and welcome back! Having an event in the diary is such a good push for the days when youโ€™re fighting the โ€œI canโ€™t be botheredโ€ feeling. Thatโ€™s definitely true for me anyway!

Youโ€™ve got loads of time to build back slowly. Are you following a plan or going freestyle? Thereโ€™s no right or wrong answer. Iโ€™m just being nosey!

I'm in too please. The aim is to finish week 2 of Ju-Ju's Magic Plan with my local parkrun tomorrow. Then for the rest of May and into June I hope to continue with the plan, on weeks 3-6, so that's 3 runs per week. And I think that means I'll be attempting 8k by the end of May, but let's see! ๐Ÿ˜‚

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to RunByTheSea64

Fantastic! I really enjoyed the magic plan when I did it. Adjust it as needed-no plan is set in stone. Sticking to running consistently is the absolutel thing you can do. Really good luck and looking forward to hearing how youโ€™re getting on!

I'm so late, I must admit that I don't check in here as often as I used to. So for May, I want to return to a more consistent routine. Without any particular training goal I'm just ambling along with just a few slow and shorter runs. Reading a post by Yesletsgo, reminded me that I'd got out of the habit of a weekly speed interval run. I couldn't think why I'd let that slip when I enjoy them so much. I tried NRC's 60s this week which was great fun. So for May let's try to do a speed interval run, a 5k and something longer each week backed up by anything else I can fit in. Some S&F and get my bike out too. That'll do for a start. And if I get back to 10k, it could be a late entry to the HU10 event. Happy questing everyone.

Never too late! Itโ€™s always lovely to see you. Nobody is marking attendance though and nobody will make you feel bad for posting a bit less. Do whatโ€™s best for you and weโ€™ll just be pleased to see you when it works.

That pattern of speed, long and about 5k is what works for me too. Consistency makes such a difference and ia a really great goal to have. Are you following a plan? Iโ€™m just finishing the Nike Run Club 10k app plan and thatโ€™s been really good. Looking forward to hearing how you get on!

Sax64 profile image
Sax64Graduate10 in reply to MissUnderstanding

No I'm not following a plan, which is probably part of the problem. Also I had a long period of successive viruses, which I seem to be over now, and that definitely stopped the flow. That's where the questing fills the gap, to try and make me accountable. Right out for a run now, gorgeous sunny morning here.

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Sax64

Iโ€™ve found having a plan really helps. I canโ€™t be one all the time and I periods of chilled runs and recovery are good not to burn out. No fun at all when itโ€™s caused by viruses thoughโ€ฆthatโ€™s miserable. Really hope youโ€™re fully recovered anc stay virus free โค๏ธ
