Welcome to week 3 and what a change in the weather! Whatโ€™s it like with you? Itโ€™s finally hit that perfect sweet spot of cold but bright for me. Saturday eveningโ€™s run was an absolute delight. Freezing cold and a setting sun with stillness, peace and some drum and bass on the headphones!!! Just twenty five minutes but utter perfection. The photo above shows the reservoir I was running around. Biggest smile in a long time after that one!

Howโ€™s the questing going? Iโ€™m hitting most of my targets. Strength continues. Iโ€™ve been to kettlebells this morning and caught myself thinking โ€œthis is too lightโ€ which never happens! Definitely progress. Iโ€™ve swum with a bonus sauna, steam room and chill on loungers with friends afterwards. Runs regularly too. Longer runs are proving elusive so this week Iโ€™m really going to try and get an 8-10k in before next weekโ€™s holiday. I also varied my cross training by adding in an impromptu spin session for the first time in a decade. Iโ€™m not going to lie, it was horrifically tough and at one point I thought I might vomit but I made it through and felt great about it afterwards. I might even go back this week! Mixing things up can be a great boost for your running. Anyone planning on trying anything new this week?

Iโ€™m really looking forward to all your updates! Itโ€™s also never too late to join in the Questing funโ€ฆ the previous thread is here if youโ€™d like to catch up but you can just jump in if youโ€™d like!

Have a great week!

For any newbies, hereโ€™s what itโ€™s all about:

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

You need to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:

โ˜… To run three times a week

โ˜… To slowly increase distance

โ˜… To train for a specific race

โ˜… To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like: โ€œI would like to join the questโ€, or, โ€œcount me in! I would like to...โ€

Any questions, just ask! Come and say hi!

Afternoon MissUnderstanding

Am I the first to reply?

Excellent work on the kettlebells. Love that you are thinking that it was too light. Definitely a sign that your strength work is paying off. Stunning photo as well.

As for me, well all seemed to be going in the right direction last week. One treadmill interval run, lots of varying strength work, core work and yoga was covered. BUT I ran for the train on Saturday and have now ended up with Plantar Fasciitis since yesterday ๐Ÿ˜ซ.

But I will not be defeated! I have already done upper body strength this morning and a long yoga session. I've massaged the area, rolled a tennis ball on it and done some exercises recommended off the internet. It already feels a bit better so am hoping it is a short lived thing ๐Ÿคž.

So I think this week will be to recover and repair. Less running, more S&C, which can't be a bad thing.

Have a great questing week all .

Yay for things moving in the right direction and boo for plantar fasciitisโ€ฆhope it settles soon. When I had my IT band problems, the S and C was brilliant for my running when I came back again-really hope that itโ€™s the same for you. Sending healing wishes your way! โค๏ธ

My 'every day' goal has not (remotely) worked out but I should be fair to myself as I have got in a nice yoga class and a glorious walk in woods that are new to me.... plus I have realised that between my medication and various settings and algorithms on my Fitbit, fewer active minutes are being picked up.

MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Sometimes those โ€œevery dayโ€ goals are helpful and sometimes they feel like a bit much. Adapting to what fits best for you is a really sensible thing. Yoga and a walk sound wonderful! Have a great week ahead โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ what a glorious photo! Wow! Well done on this lovely quest post MissU. ๐Ÿคฉ & your own achievements.

I have a new quest for this week & that is to make one of my x3 30 min runs a bit longer but still at my snail pace. I have to confess to letting the Pilates sessions slip a bit but hope to get back on track today! My walks on non running days have been fab.

Happy questing everyone!

Extending one run slowly sounds like a great plan! No need to change your pace-we love snails here. Can totally understand how Pilates has dropped off while youโ€™re on holidayโ€ฆmaybe while youโ€™re away youโ€™ll find a different pattern that works for you. Keep those gorgeous Canada scenery pics coming and have a great week โค๏ธ

Hello MissUnderstanding

Well done on your goals - although that Spin class sounds a bit too tough for my liking!

I am now back at 5K runs as I return from injury, so that was one of my goals for this month. Still some aches and niggles so I know I have to continue to take things gently for a little while yet.

Strength work is going well and I am feeling the benefits both in my legs and core as well as my arms.

So lots to be positive about I guessโ€ฆand although I wish progress was quicker, I am being a good girl and following all the physioโ€™s advice!๐Ÿ˜‡

Happy running all!๐Ÿ™‚

Congratulations on getting back to 5k! That must feel like a lovely milestone to return too Iโ€™ve found that injury really makes you appreciate those runs even more than before.

Youโ€™re doing so well with your recovery-hope this week is a good one. โค๏ธ

Good evening MissUnderstanding.

I have no particular focus this month.

I only got two runs in during last week, and that's including Pwllheli parkrun on Saturday. The reason for that was twofold: lousy weather and a tummy bug earlier in the week.

Even though the weather was ideal on Sunday I decided not to run, but instead do some cleaning chores for my Dad. (He'd had a broken night due to Mum's catheter getting blood in it, calling 111 and speaking to on-call doctor, etc.)

My problem molar lost another chunk on Sunday afternoon. So that's a dentist appointment on Wednesday morning.

This evening (the hour before sunset) it was blooming cold. I wore gloves for the first time in months. Two long sleeved tops too, but shorts with mid-calf socks. My legs don't seem to get cold when I'm running.

The average temperature was about 8ยฐC but it felt colder. I did 10km then decided not to stop running until I was much closer to home as I didn't want to get cold, doing an extra 600m instead of a cool down walk.

It was a good run. I ran by feel and didn't push myself. I could easily have gone on for another 5km.

Hopefully I can get out more this week.

It sounds like youโ€™ve had a bit of a time of it with things getting in the way of your runs. Sorry about the tooth and the issues with parents-thatโ€™s tough. Hereโ€™s to a less eventful week and more runs!

Hi,

That reservoir run looks lovely. I might have to get back to doing some evening runs, they're my favourites.

This month's quest is going well. I'm doing one 5k run each week and one interval run. The interval runs are getting easier, although the 5Ks are getting slower๐Ÿค” I do the intervals at the gym as a warm-up on the treadmill, and I've increased my speed on the running intervals by quite a bit. I don't want to jinx it, but it finally seems to be going okay!

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Archerygoddess

I had the same experience-I hardly every run 5k as fast as I did during couch to 5k. Thatโ€™s because Iโ€™ve got a lot better at running at a comfortable pace. I wonder if youโ€™re experiencing the same thing! The fact your speed is going up on your intervals shows youโ€™re getting fitter. Thatโ€™s brilliant!

Have a wonderful week!

Hello!!

That run looks to have been glorious!!! Well done you!

I am here.. on Quest and moving slowly forward !

* Regular daily routines ongoing, although much strength and stamina work has been done through box packing, lifting and moving! ( It counts).

* Yoga done every day, but with the YWA October plan, I am picking and choosing and fitting in!

* Running... YEAY!!!! Week 5 Run 3 completed on Sunday Morning... first frost here and a glorious sunshine run ! A tad chilly, but the sun still had some warmth in it!

It was a joy to get a longer run session on which, I am hoping , indicates my improving strength and stamina.

* A hint of over-worry at times...some new worries re Mr OF, but I have the handle now on them and the power of Nature and exercise works it's magic wonderfully .

Thanks for this... all helping me stay on track!

Happy, safe questing everyone!

Hints of frost in the sunshine .

Congratulations on week 5 run 3! That oneโ€™s a milestone whenever it comes around. Loads to celebrate for your week and a lovely picture too. The cold weather still feels like a treat to me at the momentโ€ฆI wonder when that will wear off!!

Really glad the time in nature is helping encourage the worries away. Youโ€™ve had a lot to deal with and youโ€™re doing so well.

Have a wonderful week โค๏ธ

I think you may find the chill will get to you... It is okay when there is sunshine I always feel, but as yesterday here, it was cold and grey...a day for inside work!

In was so looking forward to that run! I remember lying awake the first time I did C25K, the night before the run, wondering how on earth to run for 20 whole minutes! I know better now of course... it was a milestone !

Thanks you. x

That certainly is a glorious photo and it sounds like your plans are really working well for you. Just the idea of a spin class would make me vomit ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm only just getting used to having to enter a sports centre to attend my yoga class ๐ŸคฃThis last week has been another successful week quest wise. I ran a 4k on Tuesday, on Sunday I would have liked to do a long run but having had my flu and Covid jabs on Saturday I thought I'd see how it felt and decided to stick with a 5k. So my two runs doneโœ…

During the week I've actually done my physio exercises twice, two 20-30 minute YWA classes and a 10 minute pilates session. So I'm happy with that โœ…

I'm away from Friday for a week so I think things might not be so positive towards the end of the month.๐Ÿ˜‚

Youโ€™ve had a great week! Loads of ticks and things to celebrate. Iโ€™m also away next week- hoping for holiday runs but it is going to be cold so that might not happen. Sometimes a quieter week is just what we need to recover a bit and get ready for whateverโ€™s next. You can be positive about anything you do while youโ€™re away, even if thatโ€™s rest and recovery! Have a great time โค๏ธ

Good morning, I'm a little late for this week's questing update. It's been so interesting reading about everyone's achievements and that's a glorious pic MissU. There's been a lot going on with a long weekend away hiking in the Peak District, and overdoing it, my poor muscles! Some conservation volunteering in a local park plus the delightful grandchildren. So progress questing, like my running, has been snail paced. But that's fine, I'm still there, still doing it and what's more still enjoying it. I have managed to repeat my 8k success and keep the intervals and strength going, so I'm very happy AND I bought some new running gear. So I had to test it out this morning, really comfy and great for the colder mornings. Happy running ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Love those photos! I know the Peak District well and Iโ€™m super envious of your hikes up there. Youโ€™re doing so well, and itโ€™s brilliant youโ€™ve managed to get some new kit too. Thatโ€™s always a joy!! Have a wonderful week of questing! Slow is beautiful and youโ€™re still moving forwards at the right pace for you โค๏ธ

Hi missunderstanding, running near water is the best isn't it! Sounds like you've had a great week!

I ended up doing very little. My only run last week was the 15 minute 'xx weeks to go' run in the app. I was very busy with work and got frustrated at not being able to carve out sufficient time.

Anyway into this week and back on the wagon. First thing yesterday was a hill workout, then lunchtime today a 45 minute recovery run. Latter was a real struggle. Felt really up for it when I headed out, but the body was not in the same place. I probably should have cut it short, but I'm not that sensible. Perhaps it was too soon after the workout, perhaps it was doing 100 jump rope as warmup, or perhaps it was something else.

Garmin seemed to agree with how I felt, prescribing a whopping 3.5 days of recovery!

That's actually ok for a long run on Sunday, the only objective remaining for this week, alongside ensuring more early nights.

(Moggie is doing better.)

MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to chrisl72

So glad about your cat improving! Wow-I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve ever seen 3.5 days of recovery. Mine has also told me to rest today and I donโ€™t mind too much! Sleep is hard to get sorted. Hope you have some good nights to get back on track. It makes such a difference when youโ€™ve slept well. Those 15 minute runs are great for keeping ticking over when life doesnโ€™t play nicely. Good luck for feeling more on track this week! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Beautiful photo and a great post! The thought of spin gives me palpitations lol. I ran for the first time today for 35 minutes in the sunshine following the lashing rain and gloomy days of Storm Babet. I did get out for walks through and did some indoor Pilates, toning with weights and some cardio on the days I didn't run. I also did a short video workout with my daughter's 10g kettle bell, first time ever, so I was careful and didn't do too much.
