It feels like a while since I’ve posted about a run. Maybe it’s because most of my runs lately have been pretty ordinary, nothing special runs that have mainly ended in buckets of sweat. I wonder if a lot of us are in the same place at the moment? I’ve missed hearing what you’re all up to! Perhaps we should post more about those everyday, normal runs.
Today was an early start with a lot of faffing around getting myself, MrU and both our cars to the right places by 7.30am. That happened and I found myself at home having eaten breakfast and sorted myself out with ages until Pilates started. Perfect for an early (for me!) run. The weather was not inviting-fog everywhere. I decided that was better than heat so I’d just dress in a highly visible way and go for it. Plus, a good excuse to wear my “Defy the Darkness” t shirt which makes me feel like a hero.
Pacesetter dance on music. Coach B “I need a win” run loaded up. Chosen not really becaus I needed a win, but I didn’t fancy any of the other options from the NRC September playlist. I guess we all need a win sometimes so why not! Warm up, walk and off I went.
The weather was seriously misty. I’d almost forgotten how nice it is to run without being too hot! I took a well used 5k route along a lane, up a hill, down a hill and round the village. The scenery was spooky and different. I was glad of the reflective bits when a few cars came barrelling along the lane. As I ran up the hill, I felt the urge for a bit of speed so I took the brakes off and pushed it to the top. That was a lot of fun. I saw a dog walker at the brow and almost felt I had to explain I’d only been running at the pace for a short while, but since I was quite out of breath, I decided to let them think I was a speedy speedster!! The very end of the run hit a hill (poor planning again!) and rather than drag it out, I decided to hit the accelerator again for a short sprint just for fun. It felt great and I can really notice the benefit of all the squats, lunges, deadlifts etc that I’ve had to do to see off my IT band troubles.
Most of this run was just a normal, chilled, enjoyable run. I’d recommend the guided run. Lots of great thoughts about wins and losses and how to put them into perspective.
Back home and shower, stretches, Pilates and a good reward…free cake at Costa. All before lunchtime. I’ll take more of these days please!
If anyone can’t see them, there are cows in my photo!
