I am SO sorry that I'm SO late... I have not run since goodness knows when and apart from some walks...and I have been playing catch-up for quite a while ! I was away in Wales last week, but the weather and a few physical issues meant no running.
I am hopeful that maybe, by the end of the week, I may be ready, as is that Gull, to take off and get out there again...and that the glorious sunshine we have had here today, continues!
You people, however, are as ever , coming up trumps!
Lots of successful running. folk returning from the IC and some fairly new Graduates, with some really exciting goals . A few of us too, getting over all manner of virus and nasty bugs and some really hard knocks.
But, here you are and we cannot wait to share your running experiences this week.
So for anyone who is joining us this week and for any of our new Graduates who have not experienced the Quest... here is the info'
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
You need, please, to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!
If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like: “I would like to join the quest”, or, “count me in! I would like to...”
We are waiting to see how you are going on with your goals , or if you have just joined us, and about to take off too, letting us know what your goals may be.
Happy Questing Everyone.

Well my quest of extending my walks and re starting C25k has been derailed temporarily as some will know .The plantar Fasciitis put paid to the increasing walks (for now)
Then my bike ride has given me back trouble so atm mobility is a little difficult!
I do however have an appointment this evening with my sports physio who can work wonders !
I think you may have a plan by now Your goal seems to be to continue to recover from the setbacks which have followed your HA... and that is enough. we shall watch for your plan report and your progress as you move forward.
My quest was to run at least once a week but a bad cold wiped out the first 10 days of the month. I've done two 3ks since then and am now back in France, reunited with my running gear😂but so busy I haven't had time or inclination to run. We are in a very built up industrial area and I just don't fancy 3k on concrete.Tomorrow we should be moving again so fingers crossed there'll be some green space and fresh air and no gremlins lurking.
3 more runs would meet my quest and then some. Just gotta put those shoes on and get out there!
Well, sometimes, circumstances do sort of conspire against us... but, you have that goal in mind. Keeping it flexible and being kind to ourselves does help too.
Certainly the idea of the green openness of French countryside, does sound very appealing... keep us posted please, and enjoy!
Oh Floss, I hardly dare make a quest this week, tomorrow is the special day and two families, no 3 are coming together to celebrate, play guitars and sing for a most wonderful man. Willows son and mum are staying tonight and our alarms are set for 6am so we can run together before the event, on Thursday I plan to really start my plan, I'm going to have to be very firm with myself and get out the door in the mornings, it sounds easy but in reality it's easier to sit around and do nothing, so with me luck
All the very best to you Sola. It sounds like a wonderful celebration of Willow’s life, and just the thing he would have loved. Don’t be too hard on yourself for not running when there are so many other things to do right now.
When mind, body and soul are ready, you will be out there. Even the keenest of us didn’t get out in the storms last week, but at least the weather has improved now.
Just wishing you well for today. So many people on here have been touched by Willow’s life. We might not be there with you in person but we’re all sending our support to you.
Well I have re-jigged my goals for this month taking on board some of the advice received here. Originally I was planning 3 runs per week, Parkrun being one, increase time of longest run and experiment with pace.
I failed to make it to Parkrun on Saturday, due to logistics at home (I was late getting breakfast, didn't fancy doing it without a meal, but ate too late to be comfortable running at 9. Did my (not)parkrun around 11am elsewhere! Planning to get up earlier this week to make it!)
As it turns out most of my runs the last fortnight have been around 5k, and a couple of them I have run "through" the 5k for a few minutes. Longest run has been around 41.5 minutes/5.6k, which feels like an achievement.
On pace, I have continued working on keeping the pace down, instead of playing around with going faster. It has made a noticeable difference and those "easy" runs have felt a lot easier. I tried a shorter 20 minute run on Monday and really enjoyed it!
So my quest to round off this month is to continue practicing that easy pace with a combination of different length runs: one around 20 minutes, a Parkrun, and a slightly longer run around 40 minutes.
Bagged another 40 minutes, just over 5k, this afternoon. My 'easy' pace is supposed to be 8 mins/km, so I'm keeping pretty close and it was great to get to the end still feeling there was some left in the tank! I think by the end of this month I will have reconsolidated at 5k and/or 40 minutes, which feels a good thing to have done and a good foundation for whatever comes next.
That sounds really good... the , something left in the tank, is showing that things are working as they should and having that feeling of a sound foundation ! Brilliant... well done you!
Okay, this will be an odd one: my goal is to use the Epsom salt my son got for me in an attempt to get rid of the nigglies in my muscles/tendons (?) What with everything thing else going on around here, that would be something small maybe I can get done.
You being 'late' was simply a way to help me have another good thing to report as I have made it out for a teeny weeny but crucially audio accompanied run - a digital audiobook from the library and so far an engaging story.
Have eaten foraged food but that was my brother's work picking wild garlic and not mine. (Wild garlic pesto and thinly sliced potato on pizza....yum!)
Bluebells not quite ready for me yet.
Our city break got some steps in the bank towards my aim for an average of 5,000+/day over the month, then a big dip as I recovered but is picking up quite nicely so I think I am still still on target with that.
Great stuff... run done... book begun and, yummy foraged food. That Pesto sounds delicious... We had a lovely batch of wild Garlic scones, ( NT recipe), from TailChaser ... she gave them to me for my birthday when we met at the Monsal trail race..
I have not seen any bluebells yet at all...!
City break steps sounds good too... did you have a good time? I think all this sounds very positive in deed and I do hope that my next post will emulate your example and I will have got out too ! Keep us posted, please !
I’m also late to the quest and my routines are happily in disarray!
I’m not running at the moment, last run being 10 days ago!
Having had quite a few walking outings over the Easter Break, also having added some ankle mobility drills, on top of that doing a lot of gardening, and all that has meant my calf-shins felt really tight for at least a week!
“Calf-shins”, as it was the back of the leg, halfway between the knee and ankle.
I blame the ankle mobility drills and excessive squatting while gardening, so I pulled back my running, as it felt like I would be doing damage to those tight calves.
That has of course buggered up my 10k plans, but on the other hand I have been pretty active in the garden.
So on the positive note, our yard looks spick and spam, hedges cut, herb pots replanted, flower pots moved to a more sunnier spot. We’re ready for more al-fresco dinner parties, having started the season with two outdoor pizza parties!
So what is my late, late quest? And without giving myself a hard time for not having run?
- enjoy the sunny springtime and be outdoors as much as possible
- continue my short daily upper body dumbbells workouts
- continue my ankle drills but listen to my body
- and in the next few days do a little pleasurable and slow run if I feel like it
- add a row when it suits
As you can see, I’m taking it easy at the moment but loving the time in the garden!
It’s been a tricky week here for all sorts of reasons not related to running that have also made running very difficult. I’m missing my top coping mechanism for stress! It’s difficult not to feel a bit stuck at the moment but looking back, things have definitely moved forward from last week.
Last Friday, I got the go ahead from the physio to start runs again and I’ve been three times. This morning’s run was a full thirty minutes and felt mainly ok. I just don’t quite feel like myself at the moment. It’s hard to explain but the best description I’ve got is like a doll that’s been taken apart and put back together with all the pieces in the right places but not tightened up properly. Generally right but all a bit wobbly and unreliable. I know that will pass. At least the pain has settled. There’s also been a very decent about of walking, a small swim and one very tentative zumba class!
Last week’s goals were:
Do the daily physio exercises ✔️ Plus I’ve been adding in some Yoga with Adriene routines that target hips, glutes and hamstrings
Walk/swim/stretch daily as appropriate ✔️ Three runs too! Next week I also want to do three runs.
Eat mainly healthily across the week ❌
Stress has forced healthy eating out of the window. It’s not been a disaster but I’m marking that target as not achieved. This week I’m hoping to batch cook some things for the freezer than will help.
Thank goodness you got the all clear and got a run in! I do know exactly what you mean when you describe how you feel... ! I describe it as, not feeling quite like, me!
Wobbly and unreliable....perfect description!!!
But... walks, swim and Zumba.. excellent and a good set of goals that you had going, there... I feel all that you have planned is doable, but maybe you will have to see how it all goes... adapting accordingly.
Healthy eating? Sometimes necessity is the mother of cooking invention !
I think batch cooking is great,,, always so reassuring to have something read there for the , don't feel like it, days! I am really not feeling it today and we are having Fish and Chips, for lunch, from a local great F and C shop... and I really have to feel like fish and chips too, not a favourite meal normally.. except when by the sea !
You will get there my friend... slow and steady, and be kind to yourself... you have one heck of a lot going on ! x
