Hello my lovely questers…how are you all doing?? I have been dipping in and out of the forum this last week & my quest has taken a bit of a knock as I’ve been busy with work & then busy sorting things out for my friends Daughter’s wedding that I attended yesterday in Manchester…what a wonderful weekend we have had..back to work tomorrow for me…then it’s DaddyCav’s birthday on Thursday, so another day of celebrating & shenanigans…so my sincere apologies for this extra late post…
I have though, when time has allowed, been reading all your wonderful posts…your quests seem to be going well mostly…well, better than mine anyway…but I’m back on it now that the wedding has been & gone….starting with a run tomorrow…and the ice & snow has melted too so I have no excuses!!!
This is the last week of those New Year’s resolutions …you have all been amazing!!
Tell me how you’re doing and how your quests are going…I’m here with open ears…and I would love you to inspire me with your wonderful ideas & goals…
If you are a newcomer to Quest, you will find so much unbelievable support here, from our running friends, all at different stages and all hoping to fulfil different targets.
It’s the last week of the JANUARY Quest- so, do, please, feel free to join in with the fun, even if it is just to say how your running has gone these last 3 weeks
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.I ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!
If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I would like to...********
Wishing you a wonderful week of safe and happy running! If you cannot get the runs in, then just do what you are able too !💥Stay SAFE and STAY WARM!

Well I completed 9k last week and was on track to finish the month at 10k BUT Covid has hit our household 🤧 I haven’t tested positive yet but I have an awfully tingly throat which feels very covid like. I’ll see what a test says tomorrow. So as for my Quest …… I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️
I'm afraid the LFT doesn't show positive until the shedding phase, so it's very likely that you have it. That's why PCR tests were the gold standard at the height of the outbreak.
Agreed 👍🏻 I’ve tested negative again this morning but the cough continues, so I’m working from home and staying in for the recommended 5 days. When my hubby tested he had the reddest positive line I have ever seen 😲 so he’s obviously shedding all over the place 😂
Same for me. Back in April last year on a Sunday evening, my partner had the faintest line. On the Monday morning there was a slightly less faint line and (being a community nurse and potential vector) she got a PCR test as they were still available at the time. I got one at the same time.
Hers came back positive and quickly. Mine came back negative after a longer time. We were quite concerned as we'd just spent the weekend with my elderly parents. It was obvious that she had been infected but was not yet infectious.
I didn't start showing some symptoms until the Friday and at that point my LFT strip was so positive that the T line went solid black as soon as the fluid touched it.
I agree with @nowster. If your household have it and you’ve got symptoms, I’d just assume you have it too and behave accordingly. LFTs are helpful to show you have covid but weren’t intended to rule it out when you’ve got symptoms. We’ve had covid a fair few times between us and still had negative LFTs, even with obvious symptoms when the other is testing positive.
Hopefully it’ll just be mild for you. There’s a great post from Oldfloss over on Bridge that’s worth a read.
So I finally tested positive this morning - no surprise there. I’m feeling ok, just the typical covid cough but otherwise ok from the neck down. I’m working from home and am really BORED. I’m definitely an out and about person. So the quest will have to wait. I feel like I could run - but I won’t 😂
Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding! That must have been such a wonderful day. Hope you have fun celebrating the birthday this week too.
It’s felt like I haven’t run much this week but it really hasn’t been the washout that I thought. It’s been really icy here and I’m still massively risk averse after the fall. I’ve bought new trail shoes and taken them out twice-5k and 10k around the hills and bridleways. That was so much fun. They’re still in a disgusting state so I might try and wear them rather than clean them today! I took advantage of a break in the ice to do my first interval speed run since November-hill, hillier, hilliest on the NRC app. To give you an idea of how it went, I did it on Monday and my legs still hurt! Absolutely loved it though.
These are my official quest goals:
One long run a week, one speed session and some easy runs ✔️
10km long run, 5km easy run, NRC speed run
Strength session once a week ✔️ ✔️✔️
Two hiit class, one aqua hiit
Proper stretching after every run ✔️
I’m in a good habit with this now.
The ice is back today which is frustrating. I’ll keep the quest the same for this week but priority will go to staying injury free!
Hello again. My Quest has been sabotaged by a cold/flu bug which has left me with a horrible cough. It's been 12 days since I've run and I am getting better but don't want to push too hard. Once my chest feels clear I'll start again. In the meantime I'm staying inside as it's been so cold and just having the odd walk when the sun shines.Good luck everyone 😁
Congratulations on your friends daughters wedding . Also on your hus8coming birthday. I am happy to say that my quest of getting out run/walk 3 times a week has been accomplished. Enjoyed it so much that I can only say I will continue xx
Yeah, tootling along OK with my modest goals for the month.
Last week I was worrying a bit about the yoga and I am not entirely sure that I'm over the 50% of days, but a weekend away was a big help and I not only managed a practice but an excellent class.
Am wiped out this week, as entirely predictable so I need to keep my eye on the yoga and making sure I get my run in... but I am in stealth run gear today under my pretty dress and no worries about ice, so set fair.
Hi Mummycav Celebration enjoyment is a good incentive for post celebration exercise enjoyment, and vice Versa!😉. I'm sure you will soon be back on track. Notwithstanding the challenges of picking a safe route and getting the footwear right I'm on track for my January Quest and this morning I'm pleased to say I completed a 9k run for the first time having set my watch today to run 6k. Slow but steady even pace, a bit slower up the inclines but the first and last 3ks were not too far apart on the lane segments. So hopefully I'll be able to get a second longer run in, maybe 7k before the end of the month. And just to acknowledge how brilliant it is for people who balance busy lives and work etc and still get out to run. I'm retired so time is not the issue!
brilliant Chinkoflight …you’ve done amazing for your quest…
I know what you mean about time…I started my own business just over a year ago, before that I was a stay at home mum for 19 years so time wasn’t a massive concern but now, well, I could do with an extra 4-6 hours a day 🤨!!
W4R1 yesterday on the dreadmill but got a bit of a knee issue again 😩 so am hoping with a bit of TLC I can carry on.
Physio exercises (the low squats) are not helping my knee so have binned them off for now. I may introduce them back in if I feel that my knee can take it.
Rowing machine has ended up under a pile of boxes that we had to move for the electrician to do some work and I've not got round to sorting that out - hopefully at the weekend.🤞
Wishing DaddyCav a fantastic birthday for tomorrow 🎉🎈🎂🥂
it was lovely beth_f …my friends daughter has been so troubled while she’s been growing up so it’s so lovely to see her happy & with someone who loves her & understands her complexities…I was very emotional!
I’m sorry to hear about your pesky knee problem but happy to hear you’re not pushing or ignoring what it’s telling you..hoping you manage to dig out the rower, I’m sure you’ll feel like you’ve managed something after a couple of sessions?!
Oh a wedding and a birthday, how lovely 😍 My Quest had been ok-ish although the longer run each week will have to wait. I've entered "ticking over" mode with a couple of shorter runs a week, one or two swims and a weekly Pilates Class.
Oh, and I did manage to finally test out the chest torch on a post work evening Run. It was brilliant 😀
sounds great Birdlady64 , I have a chest torch but with the l.e.d. Street lights I don’t really need it..it is bright though..and your quest sounds like a good plan 😉
Well for a start off…I’ve failed miserably at posting…surprise! 🤦🏻♀️😬🙄
However…I’ve just looked back at my activities on Fitbit…and I have had at least 10 minutes of exercise every day so far!
There was 1 day where I hadn’t ran, walked, or did a home workout or YWA…but…I had logged 12 brisk minutes! 🙌🏼
So…without realising it, I’m on course to complete a very basic RED January!!! Who’d a thunk it! 😂
In terms of running, I ran #24 of NRC10k plan today…a speed run, which I enjoyed. I love the way the runs are so varied. I’ve done 3 walks as well.
I’m behind with YWA, evenings are the best time for me, I get free range of the living room once Mr.L has gone to bed…so sometimes I’m just not up for it. About to tackle tonight’s practice though…up to #18!
one day left!!!! You’ve done fabulously well…because…you’ve done what you can…and fit it in around your life..& that’s perfect…quest next month is yet another opportunity to stay on track xx
thanks Mummycav managed 20 brisk minutes today by just slow jogging around the living room for a couple of minutes every hour! Had to stay in waiting for a plumber with a useful appointment time span of 8am-6pm 🙄
Will be doing YWA #22 (and possibly #23) tonight. Hoping for a run tomorrow if all the signs align 🤞🏼
Running 3 times a week not so good - the recent icy weather meant I couldn’t risk running outside (I have lost the balance system in my ears so have to take care). BUT I did manage to do something everyday - walking, rowing or strength exercises!
Doing something every day is fantastic…I’d be more than happy with myself!! Hopefully you have some sense of balance back & will be raring to go in the February quest x
Hi MC,Just checking in, hope DaddyCav is having a lovely birthday, and saw that you ran this morning too! Your weekend away at your friends daughters wedding must have been fun!
I have been keeping up my running comeback and have two runs clocked up this week so far. Next run is W3 R3 on Saturday.
I have practised YWA everyday, and gotten my 50k walking badge already on Strava.
Not drunk very much plain water, I keep forgetting. Still no alcohol since October and almost no caffiene.
Enjoying this months activity very much after a troubled few months.
hi Bluebirdrunner …think you’ve over taken me…I ran this morning & completed W3R2 and it went well…I absolutely love getting up at ridiculous o’clock, I’m up before the sun lately!!!
DaddyCav had a lovely birthday thank you & my friends daughters wedding was absolutely beautiful…my heart was swelling with pride…she had a troubled time as a teenager & often knocked on our door in the early hours for a cuppa & a shoulder to cry on when she wasn’t getting on with anyone…so I feel so happy that’s she’s found someone who understands her & will always look out for her…my door will always be open to her though xxx
Glad your troubled few months have finally finished…and your Strava achievement is amazing xxx 😘
Also struggled a bit this week, as work was one of the heaviest since a long time! And working into the night is not helping with morning runs.
So not doing as well as I hoped with my quests (but balancing that with some very successful events at work)
My quests so far:
🔲 ✔️ Rowed 5x over last 7 days on Row31 Daily Indoor Rowing Challenge: so just missed out on one session
🔲 ✔️ YWA yoga managed 5 over last 7 days, so not perfect but ok-ish. Missed out on 2 sessions.
🔲 ❌ #Walk1000Miles Challenge. Not really. My Apple health tells me that I’ve consistently upped my daily average in terms of walking and running, but that’s probably just walking to and from train stations whilst commuting to and from work. So nothing special, but still a bit of walking I guess. But I didn’t manage to get a single dedicated walk in ! 😒
🔲 ❌ Finish my Jeffing Running Plan. Managed 1 run in last 7 days, although I know I need at least 2 per week. 🤔 I I got to get better on this one! 😖
So I wouldn’t really give myself green ticks anywhere this week, but I did manage to keep a considerable amount of rowing and yoga up. It hopefully helps me ticking along.
you’ve done what you can CBDB and that’s what the quest is about…setting realistic goals but understanding that they have to fit into our lives..,there’s always next months quest to help you stay on track…I know I’ll be joining in xx
Hello Mummycav hope you're well and that you had a fun birthday bash on Thursday. I know all about getting a bit derailed with my quests. My week 3 has not gone to plan mainly due to the weather and taking on a new steps challenge:
1) NO - do my physio exercises at least 5 times a week - only did them twice due to being too tired in the evening as I'm competing in a steps challenge at work and doing almost 3 hours walking a day
2) NO - jog at least twice a week, increasing time of each run gradually. Only ran once outside because of the ice and left it too late to fit a run in at the gym
3) NO - do at least 2 hurt foot friendly yoga sessions a week - didn't even manage to stretch
4) SORT OF- do at least 1 cardio with weights sitting in a chair once a week - didn't manage to fit a session in but did volunteer again for a 4 hour shift in a warehouse doing lots of lifting and carrying
5) NO - maybe start swimming again. Just haven't fancied it.
Although I haven't stuck to my quests I have still been active. I think next month I won't be so specific and give myself a bit more flexibility so I can say that I have completed them! 😀
Thanks once again for hosting and for keeping us accountable!
Hi Jogger22 …you have done what you can and that’s what’s important…we can’t help the icy weather & there’s no point risking it & ending up on the IC??!!
February’s quest is another chance to set some goals & yes, remember they are flexible…the host of the quest isn’t going to come knocking on your door asking questions…although if I loved nearer I’d probs knock on your door and ask if you fancied going for a run!!! Lol…
I’ve enjoyed hosting the quest this month & hope it won’t be long before I get my chance again x
