Latecomers are welcome. If you’re just joining us, here’s what it’s all about.
What is the Quest ?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
Some popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it’s completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENT BELOW with something like:
“I would like to join the Quest…” or, “Count me in! I want to…”
Every week I will put up a new post and we can all chat about how we are doing.
This last week has caused much of my running on hold. I got bitten twice by insects at the parkrun on Saturday. I did a solo Half Marathon on the Sunday morning without problems. By the afternoon the bites had started to get inflamed.
By the Monday morning the leg was swollen, painful and the bites were “angry”. I was able to get antibiotics on Tuesday afternoon (getting through to the GP appointment line on a Monday morning is always a problem) and they’ve fixed things such that I could do a short run on Thursday, parkrun yesterday and a run this morning.
How’s it been going for you? Has what you planned been achievable, did you plan to do too much, or have you been bitten by the wrong sort of running bug?
Tell us all in a reply to this post.
Happy running!

Poor you, nowster . That sounds awful. I hope the infections and discomfort clear quickly.
It’s been an off week for me in a different manner as I’ve been working away from home (as in spending nights away). I knew running would be very unlikely. I did some brisk walks and top-and-tailed with commuter bike rides, so at least I’ve met my weekly ‘intensity minutes’. Returning home, I felt totally exhausted for a couple of days and really couldn’t face running…. or anything. Friday’s rain didn’t help, but, uncharacteristic of me, I also skipped yesterday morning which was lovely running weather. Today, then, has been my only run: 4.5k. It was designed to incorporate the drills for Day 29 of the 30-Day Challenge with James Dunne (with the team on S&F). I managed to do the (tough) third drill for 2x 05:00 without pushing my HR into zone 4. In short, it comprised a nice tempo run. I also saw part of the Hackney HM, so that was another encouragement to get back on track.
It seems to be something I get at least once each summer nowadays. I'm a lot better now and it looks a lot worse than it feels. Without treatment I'd probably be in hospital now!
I'm currently watching the Great Manchester Run on BBC2. Maybe next year for me. A couple of the parkrunners I follow on Strava have done the Half Marathon there today.
Exhaustion is a great deterrent and I have succumbed to it quite a bit and let it win. I will try to beat it more often in the future and blame the weather instead 😅😅. I have been meaning to do some tempo runs myself and will try to concentrate on them this week.
Week went quite well. I started replying to your post, it went on a bit long so posted it here as a pot on its own instead healthunlocked.com/marathon....
Last pill of the course this morning. Yes, things are healing nicely, thanks.
Holiday is important. I'll be taking my running gear with me on mine this year. It's in North Norfolk and I've already planned out several routes! My plan is to get up before my partner and do my runs and have a shower before breakfast.
Hope the bites have healed by now nowster .I only ran twice last week so have only run 42.86 km of my 60km target. One week to go and over 17 km....hmm, if I can fit in the long awaited 10k I might just do it but I'm not holding my breath.
Haven't done any online yoga/core stuff, I'm turning back into a slob again 😂
I am however still eating beetroot at least once a day and drinking a few shots of it daily. My local Sainsbury's seems to be running short the juice of it so maybe it's catching on 😂😂😂
Looking good on the legs. Still some scabs but the swelling and bruising is almost all gone.
I'm still on track for my monthly target of 100 miles, and I'm 95 miles ahead of schedule for running 1000 miles this year. They're all flexible targets. If I hit them, great, if not it really doesn't matter. (My mileage in April was low due to catching Covid.)
Best of luck! And hopefully you don't have any side effects from the beetroot. 😆
Not bites for me but I did slip on the cellar steps so my left foot and frozen peas were best mates for a while. This hasn't helped but really it has been other stuff in the way and the rest of May will be no less hectic. However, I think I may reach my yoga goal and as I have paid good money for a medal for running a 5K, running a 5K will be my other priority.
