What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time. Some popular goals are:
β To run three times a week
β To slowly increase distance
β To train for a specific race distance
β To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!

My quest for this month is to prepare for the return of parkrun at the end of the month and avoid mucking things up by overdoing things. I want to be able to enjoy running the 10km event I've entered at the start of July.
- no running in bad weather (for health reasons) or skip to the treadmill instead
- no running when feeling ill (eg. migraine)
- no paying attention to speed or distance
- run for fun

I'm not doing too well with the running 3 times a week. Got hit with sun-allergy this weekend (despite wearing a cap and sunscreen) and my face and arms aren't too happy with it. So I have to keep out of the sun for a bit and certainly can't go running in the sun. Ordered some stuff (antihistamine-meds and some kind of sunscreen with factor 100+) and am waiting for it to come in. Once they work, I might be able to go run outside again. And I could run on my treadmill, but I tend to get VERY hot and sweaty when I run on the treadmill and that's also something to avoid at the moment with how my face is. So I fear I'll have to skip running a few days π
My treadmill stands where the sun is, so if I open a window, it's even hotter. As for the fan, we threw away some fans last year to replace it with a special one. But that special one is used by my folks in the living room and blows up to the ceiling. I'll have to check if we have something still locked away in the garage. Just not sure if it would help as I get realllly hot, haha. Just going to let my face heal now first and once it stops aching I'll look into the fan.
I'm not sure if a treadmill in the line of the sun or a treadmill in a dreary garage is worse I'm looking directly at a breezeblock wall and gardening tools and keeping a wary eye out for spiders
Maybe get someone to stand there with a big palm type fan keeping you cool ? lol
Now THAT is an idea! Going to post an ad in the newspaper for a good looking guy with a palm leave. Of course if I will run a lot then? π But hey, at least you have a good motivator in that garage of yours: running away from the spider behind you. As long as it doesn't jump on the treadmill and starts running along, you ought to be safe π. And should it start to run along, catch it and make some money out of it!
I have had really bad sun spots this year...presume that's same as sun allergy! ? I've had it since I was small and usually only in April / May time but this year it went all up my arms which is unusual....very very itchy! I have to use strong sun protection but don't always remember!
Oh, I like this idea roseabi ! Will definitely print this out and put it next to my Vitality 10000 number which is stuck on my fridge at the moment, waiting to be run! π€£For me, the goals are simple this month - to run at least 3 times a week, and after a week of slow running, reintroduce some fartleks!
Not quite matching up to the quest timing but today I'm starting my running club's 8 week faster 5k plan, aiming to get below 25 mins (and possibly even further). I'm hoping the plan will motivate me to push a bit faster and to make sure I actually do the strength and conditioning workouts (you have to post a strava screenshot of each day's workout for added peer pressure!).
My June quest is to complete my April quest, which became my May quest, and has now become my June quest. Hoping it will be 3rd time lucky. Started by doing my planks this evening, so day 1 β I want to run a minimum of once a week, and do planks every day I donβt run.
My continuing Quest is to get back to full stamina with consolidation runs. Twice a week if possible. Helped by doing daily P.E with Joe Wicks sessions from last year Monday to Friday on YouTube and daily YWA practices. I want to run 5k a couple of times tooπ€π
My Quest for June is to not have a Quest!I have been logging runs and walks every day for one challenge or another* since 28th June last year so now I am just going to go out and run three times a week. I usually run about 6km but sometimes feel like doing more.
So far this non-Quest has been too successful - I forgot to update my spreadsheet yesterday
I will of course still be logging my (not)parkrun times.
* GNR Solo, LeJog, Lanzarote Virtual runs, COGH challenges. HU 10K and Vitality 10K
Don't suppose for a moment the pic will be legible, but it shows my incremental gain targets and dates of achievement. The top one is Stanley's progression to the Champions' League, which I am unable to influence directly, the others k by k progress towards 5k in 23 mins, 10k in 50 mins, and 10 miles in 90 mins. The 5k and 10k targets have separate lines for road and treadmill. The only achievements so far are 1k and 1.5k at the necessary 5k pace, and 8k at the 10k pace, all on the treadmill, and 10k at the 10 mile pace out on the road. The last row in each section gives past achievements - going back to a 40'10" 10k in 1986 - those really were the days, my friend!
And it's in my computer, not on the fridge!
Onwards and Upwards!!
Edit to say it's legible on a PC, at least, if you enlarge it.
Well Roseabi, Iβm out for my first run on a new 5k plan. I was looking out for the quest because I really need the boost right now. I shall print it off when I get back and can give myself my first tick! π
Er, well I got as far as printing off the sheet roseabi! Iβve done one run and a few walks, including a beautiful one this morning in the Warwickshire countryside as I visit my family for the first time since Feb last year - woohoo ! Will probably go out early tomorrow morning when itβs a bit cooler!
Pleased with a fun 10k notched up, run/walk lots of walking (especially at the end) but I did it, enjoyed it and only took a day to recover! Woo hoo. Looking forward to more of the same. πββοΈπ§ββοΈπ€ΈββοΈxxx
Well that didn't work out as planned! Parkrun has been put back another month. The 10k event that was to be on July 4th has been put back to October 31st.
Instead I'm now concentrating on getting the distances back up to where I'd reached in April, and not getting injured in the process. I'd like to reach HM some time next month.
