Today was my first run of the week. Tuesday it was raining and windy; yesterday I was going out to see a friend and didnβt want to be rushed. I was concerned about the drive as I hadnβt been there before.
I woke early and made a cuppa. While I was drinking it downstairs I heard my brother get up. To avoid the chit chat I went into Julia stealth mode and sneaked back upstairs and put on my running clothes! Then I knew I wouldnβt be distracted π
It was going to be a short run today. I know a 3K route. I had to do my stretches in the middle of my warm up walk!
Off I go, trying not to set off too fast. Iβm pleased to be out early. Itβs a bit chilly so Iβm wearing a long sleeved top and shorts. Neck buff (to double up as a mask if necessary) and sun visor.
First kilometre done round the houses and I head uphill towards the common. My route takes me along next to it. I enjoy this part, once itβs flattened out and there are a number of people walking their dogs. I pass a few runners coming from the opposite direction and all acknowledge me. Through the village now and I start the last kilometre. I can smell coffee from the shop; itβs just as well I donβt have any money on me!
The first part of the last kilometre is uphill as I mistimed it slightly, so I shorten my stride and tell myself that hills are my friends. It seems to work! Then itβs downhill all the way! I pass my brother as heβs walking to the shop to get Dadβs paper, but Iβm too out of breath to answer him as Iβm pulling out a few stops to finish strong π
βHomeβ for stretches and coffee! I bought a new seed mix to have with my porridge and Iβm looking forward to trying it out π

That was nice short 3K run for you today Julia, ha, going up stairs to avoid your brother, I wonder if he runs, if not what does he think of you his sister running, if he doesn't run you could get him to start C25K. π ππΎ
A good 3k run Julia - you seem to conquered that pesky incline! You were up and out early - exactly an hour before me this morning. I wonder if Instructor57 was up when I started? π
And fancy avoiding your brother like that - and then just running straight past him. Shame on you!
Thatβs a good run, I do think shorter runs are great and those splits are impressive, Iβm envious of anyone trying to keep a run slow, i can plod on very slowly and have to make a real effort to speed up That photo is stunning, the light and moody sky very striking
Thank you, Sola. The light was gorgeous, sun shining on the oilseed rape and dark clouds behind! I spotted the shot as we passed through a gate and ran over to take the picture before the light changed.
Nice one Julia, sounds another good run with your friendly hills too, and once again, that last km π you'll be ready for the park run in june, and fast too!! πββοΈπββοΈπ
I miss the flatness of the fens and running in more rural areas, but I am getting used to the slopes. I am planning on doing the park run in June and also swimming.
Iβll keep trying with my brother. Planning a trip to stay with my son in Shropshire as soon as Covid rules allow and heβll run with me π
Well done you, loving Julia stealth mode and negative splits! Amazing as always. Hope you had a lovely time with your friend. Take care π§Έπ΄σ §σ ’σ ·σ ¬σ ³σ ΏπΎππ¦π₯π±π₯° xxx
Itβs usually my Dad that goes into stealth mode to avoid having a shower! He waits until Iβm actually in the shower, quickly dresses and nips downstairs!
I am a bit late reading and commenting on your post Jools. I hope you are feeling better after you reaction to the vaccination. I had my first Astra Zeneca jab on Friday and suffered very similar to you. Uncontrolled shivering for a few hours, nausea all night and headache and fatigue, I came good on Saturday though. I made sure I ran the morning of the vaccination and havenβt yet gone again..maybe tomorrow? I looked up to see where Long Crendon is located, I browsed a photo βtourβ showing some very pretty thatched cottages. Keep the posts and the inspiration coming!
Hi! Iβm sorry you had similar side effects. It doesnβt sound like my symptoms were as bad as yours, but theyβve lasted longer. I did sleep better last night and just feel a bit nauseous this morning, so I think the worst is behind me. I donβt think Iβll run before the weekend.
Long Crendon is very pretty and the drive out there was open countryside. I really enjoyed the beautiful walk through the oilseed rape fields down to the bridge over the river. My friend took me out to lunch and we sat in a garden in the sunshine, eating our bacon and avocado rolls with cows in the adjacent field and few hens gobbling around our table.
