Shall I Shan’t I - bury old demons

So having run my first 10k on Monday 🤪 thought I’d have a quick look at any local runs to keep me motivated. Low and behold there is a 10k in Beddington Park in a few weeks time. This is the park where I used to do my school cross country running 40+ years ago. It’s flat, four laps and I checked last years times and based on that I won’t be last if I do it in 1.10. It’s also only once a year. So I kind of, kind of, kind of feel I should 🤔 but wondered if I’m being too ambitious so welcome others advice on how long they waited as don’t want to end up in IC again😱. So VRBs what do you reckon, time for bling or consolidate for longer?

I'd say if it's in a few weeks time there should be time to consolidate between.

Congratulations on running your first 10K on Monday, I hope that Beddington Park brings happy memories to you Aspire24, no harm on signing up for that 10K, you could practice a few kilometers around Beddington Park before the run, that's up to you, you are not likely to get a injury, good luck for the run.

You’ve graduated 10k so know you can do it. You don’t have to do it searching for a PB, just go and enjoy and see the difference 40+ years made. It’s a win whatever your time. Good luck.

Do it! As long as you don’t go mad with sprinting, it shouldn’t bother you any more than any other 10k. And what a great place to bury the demons! 👏🏼👍 If you do happen to feel a twinge, just walk or slow a moment and then carry on. Hi! 🎉

No chance of sprinting 😂. Will just need to make sure I pace myself 👍

I’d say that park has needed its butt kicked for far too long! You’re at 10, so some nice consolidation work can be capped off with a triumphant run to show that cross country course what you got now.

Butt kicking, I like it. Will recall the old oak tree where we used to hide and have a sneaky No 6 😂

🤣

I was a quick 3000m runner at school, I trained almost every day.

The 5 mile cross country came around twice a year, and took us off the school grounds and past a couple of pubs. My house master couldn’t work out how I wasn’t scoring highly for his house... but he didnt realise that 5 miles was counter productive for my racing... and that I didn’t actually pass the pubs. I feel sorry for the kids these days, most landlords care about the age of their potential customers 🤣

😂😂 progress. What we classed as “naughty” in my day is nothing like what kids today are tempted by. Glad I got mine through their teenage years, kept them busy!!

Sounds like a perfect plan to me - go for it! 🙂Checking out past results is always helpful as it gives you a chance to not only look at the times but also the approximate size of the event. Brilliant that you last ran there 40+ years ago! Good luck!👍

That’s a good point, doesn’t look overly large but I’ve never done one before so 🤞. Thanks for advice
