How to increase distance

I graduated C25K a couple of months ago and have done 8 Park runs. I would like to start increasing my distance. Is there an app like the the C25K that gets you to the 10k safely. Would appreciated some help on how to achieve this. Thank you

There’s a plan in the linked posts which you can use. Or of course just keep adding a bit more time / distance to your long run each week until you get there.

Thank you. I managed 6.25k on Tuesday so hopefully can keep adding to that

Hi there, there is Ju Ju's Magic Plan which over the course of 8 weeks gets you to 10k. The alternative plan is getting you up to 60 mins. I have found it a brilliant device to get up to running for an hour after some weeks of consolidating, (I am on week 6) plus there are strength exercises included which are very beneficial. Hope that is some help. Good luck!

Thank you. I saw that this morning. Looks like a good plan. Will definitely look into it more

I did JuJu's plan and managed to get to 10k within the 8weeks. had tried before but found I injured myself, the plan stopped me doing that.

this website keeps giving my weekly runs are now 5k 10k 5k (parkrun)

looking to consolidate the 10k over the next few months and will build from there with aim of 1/2 marathon in spring.

It is a great plan. I like the structure being, still, a new runner. Parkrun is my next goal. I run solo atm but the feedback is so positive.

Bite the bullet and try Park Runs. I don’t think you’re regret it! They are addictive!

Hi Tonj, if you don’t want to follow a structured training plan the usual advice is to add no more than 10% to your longest run each week. I did this up to half marathon distance as I’m not very disciplined at following plans!

Good luck with your running, see you on the marathon forum soon. 😉

Ohh that’s sounds scary when you say marathon. 😉 maybe one day. At 56 and only been running since April that seems a long way off, if ever. But never say never.

Well, half marathon is definitely achievable once you can run 10km! I’m not even sure about full marathon myself yet... but I think I know I’ll have to do one in the end...

Anyway, you’re doing great already. Just enjoy your running whatever distance.

I tried a couple of different plans but didn’t feel right with them. Interval Running dosen’t seem to be my bag. So I just tried slow and steady runs gradually increasing my distances. Then when I got to 10K I consolidated for a little while and am now planning to slowly increase again towards 10mikes. Did a 7 mile run earlier this week.

Yes I’m not sure about interval running. I’ve seen a few people doing it at the park run. But I find it harder to stop/start. I’m better at going slower and not stopping. I have done 8 Park runs now. And yes they are addictive.
