Today I ran 6k, which was supposed to be 5.5k but I had to slow for a park vehicle and pause to pick up a doggie gift (and Iβd given her plenty of time to do that before I began running, cheeky little girl! π) So I thought Iβd do a little extra to make up for it. π
I went to Ashton Court, the one with the long 2.5k hill and trucked slowly on up, turning beyond the the regular parkrun turning point The extra part I added was flat Iβm happy to say. I then began my descent and it felt absolutely awesome! There was a wet mist in the air, not really raining, but my dog and I got quite wet. It was the perfect temperature for a run, with a minimal breeze and I loved it. πββοΈβ€οΈ
I finished at 6k, having felt I could have carried on (love that feeling), and it was then I noticed my nearly negative splits! The first km was the odd one out. The 2nd km was the one I slowed for the vehicle, but they improved after that! Clearly the final 3k were mostly downhill, but hey, Iβll take it!
Yes! Yes! Yes! I notice the Runners World article on the benefits of running with your dog neglected to mention doggie gifts or scheduling thereof π
Yes cheeky you are allowed to be proud of that run with your dog, I am sure your dog enjoyed the run as much as you did. Not sure why you call yourself cheeky, you don't seem to be a cheeky sort of person. π
Thank you so much Sandie! Iβm doing parkrun there this Saturday so Iβll try again and attempt to include the first km too! πββοΈπππ
Thanks Wimborne! Pretty snaily going up but itβs quite a way so I try to pace myself! Itβs a lovely place to run though and the view at the top is lovely! π
Yay well done cheeky! Yes, yes you are allowed to be proud, you should also be proud that you retrieved said doggy gift. I know there are too many people around who just wouldn't have!
Awesome negative splits btw, that's textbook that is
Thanks so much Neil, my first ever negative splits - just a shame the first km was a bit quicker than the 2nd or Iβd have had a clean sweep! Iβm going to try again at parkrun this Saturday. ππββοΈππ
To be fair you had a stinker of a hill to contend with, I think you can only expect perfect negative splits on completely flat terrain, at least at our stage of the game
Oh yes I understand - itβs why I posted asking if mine counted today! Iβm a way off flat ground negative splits thatβs for sure, but Iβll take every little positive I can get for now! ππ
Me too Iβm not great with them, but I have an issue with tight hip flexors at the moment which my physio reckons may cause me issues trying to speed up during a longer run. Whatever - I just run π
Hahaha Lexi, itβs quite a steep gradient so to be honest itβs not hard to go fairly fast down (and mighty slow up!) I enjoy it though. The thought of the 2.5k down at parkrun is a fabulous incentive! π
Thanks BC, Iβm now rather cross about the first km, which was quicker than the 2nd. I want a clean sweep (getting greedy now!) Yes I agree about doggie grad badges - they run as far as their humans, so should get recognised! We were saying they should have their own bark-codes at parkrun too! π πβ€οΈ
Thank you Bridget, I canβt wait to tackle it again at parkrun this weekend, and Iβm going to attempt a clean sweep and get that 1st km to join the negative splits party too! πββοΈππ
Hahahahaha, I know what you mean HS! I had to do the very same thing a short time ago, especially because on a flat run, or one where the hill isnβt out the way first, Iβm nowhere near them! π πββοΈ
I think you can claim a negative split if the second half is quicker than the first. Every k quicker than the last would be awesome - which makes you nearly awesome π
Fantastic news UTS! Iβll take it, despite the fact that the 2nd half was almost all downhill! Cheaty negative splits work for me - itβs the only way Iβll get them at the moment! π π
Well done cheeky, I've noticed that happens without thinking sometimes, I managed a 6.45k the other day, all j could thin was that I wasn't surprised I was tired at the end!
Isnβt it fabulous when you surprise yourself Jundal? Iβve run there before at Parkrun and didnβt descend so quickly, even with the βparkrun boostβ I seem to get. Iβm going to try again this weekend and see what happens! π
Well done CCM! Another great run, and yes you can be proud of nearly negative splits. How's the training going for the run in May? I think it was May??
Thank you SSF, itβs wonderful when something unexpected happens - and that was definitely unexpected! π Trainingβs going well thanks. Yes, May 5th and Iβm counting down the days. π Iβm doing the Magic 10 again and working on getting a βbitβ quicker, plus incorporating more hills - hence this run! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Glad to hear it! I just told myself that I can get up them - I may be slow but that doesnβt matter - the old C25k mentality! Funnily enough they arenβt as bad as they were π Iβll never be a brilliant runner so for me it is about enjoying it, feeling great about the effects of being fitter, and challenging myself on my own terms. π€
