What is recommended... complete breast removal or tumor area only. The cancer is localised but at advance stage meaning the lymph nodes are also affected. Doc has cat between 2 and 3.

personally I would prefer complete removal. But if the patient is hr negative, maybe tumour area is sufficient only if advised by your doctor.

My reason is when lymph nodes are already affected it is no more localised and cancer may return later, so as an additional safeguard I prefer complete removal.

If the nodes are involved or if it is in advanced stage, your Oncologist may suggest undergoing chemotherapy first to get things under control and surgery may happen later.

As far as preservation or removal is concerned, there is no straight answer. It is individualized. Surgical Oncologists will consider various points like whether it is ‘unicentric’ or ‘multicentric’, the ratio of size of tunour to size of breast, the need for neo adjuvant chemo, the type of cancer etc. so I suggest, please sit with your Oncologist to understand what is the best option.
