I can understand your anxiety, as this is the first follow up visits. All survivors and their care givers go through this phase. Do not worry, all will be fine.

Bone density is done to check the level of osteoporosis.

As per standard protocols (ASCO, NCCN etc), the first mammography after completion of treatment should be done, not less than 6 months of completion of treatment. However, if your oncologist wishes to do the same, go ahead, no problem as such. Sonography is to see the liver and other organs.

So just go ahead, get those things done. I am sure they will all turn out to be normal and you will soon be having a nice ice cream.

Kontak - All appointments and tests after a cancer diagnosis tend to bring out a nervous few days before the actual appointment. I try to think of follow up testing as insurance that everything is still OK. Perhaps you can help your sister to think of these tests that way. I'm sure she will still be nervous going into the actual tests, but she might be able to relax and get on with enjoying life a bit more between them if she sees the tests this way. And, if there is anything going on, it is much better to have a doctor who stays on top of things than one who dismisses you when your treatment is over. your sister is lucky to have such a caring person to support her!
