Yes have had 2x3 years of zoladex on different occasions. There is No doubt - they hurt! I used to take 2 paracetamol half an hour before hand. For the second lot they also put emla cream on under a dressing for 10/20 mins. This helps. Thankfully itβs quick!
I think there was an initial tiredness probably the release after the adrenaline rush. You may well feel tired as in effect they are switching off your ovaries which keep us young. Iβve been in medically induced menopause since 35, now 50 and pushed through it altogether by the drugs but feel about 80 most mornings on letrazole.
I've had 4 so far. Mine is usually tender for a few days and bruised.
After the first injection, which was quite painful, I've used Numit cream (same sort of cream as Emla cream). I spread it on the side of my stomach they're going to use, (they alternate), an hour before and cover it with glad wrap.
Out of all the needles I've had over the year, Zoladex has to be the worst! I've been prescribed emla too. Do you use the whole small tube or should I use just half for my second Injection?
I've got a lil bruise still showing from having my Injection last week.
My tube of Numit is 10g. I only use a blob around the size of a 5 cent piece (Australian) and spread it over an area of about 10cm x 10cm. Works well especially if put on an hour before.
Yes I still have a bruise 2 weeks after my injection. Haven't noticed if it makes me more tired than usual ( which is quite often anyway). Although I think I have seemed more tired after a lot of my different appointments, I think because I can get anxious leading up to them, then when they're over I relax and can be tired and emotional!
You've mentioned you've had the DIEP reconstruction, how'd that go, any problems? I'm still deciding if I want to have reconstruction. Am worried about causing more physical problems!
I'll probably put on a fair amount of Elma for my next injection, they've also given me a large plaster to place on top.
Yer I had the DIEP in January, the first few days after surgery was hard, not being able to move as much, the doctors and nurses do help and encourage you to start moving again with the help of nurses to get you in and out of the bed when necessary.
I wasn't keen on the drains, the doctors said the more movement I made the quicker the drains would be removed, which was 6 days after surgery. Then you have 3 months of recovery time, I had weekly appointments with plastic surgery nurses, monthly appointments with my plastic surgeon to check over my new boob and stomach, one upside is have a flat tummy for once π
It's a personal choice I had 2 other options, the implant and the back flap? with the help of my breast care nurse. I asked a lot of questions in the end went with DIEP. And can sy I'm very happy with the results and a flat stomach.
If it helps right down a list of questions for ur breast care nurse and ur plastic surgeon? Hopefully that will help u decide?
Thanks Sami, Glad the DIEP went well for you. I think I'll take my time deciding. I'm on a waiting list to see a plastic surgeon. Will talk with them at least.
I don't like the thought of more lymph node interruptions with the stomach being cut and numbness.
In the meantime I'm looking for comfy tops/dresses that don't gape, then I can be whatever cup size I like!π
Hi I have had 4 injections so far. The 1st was painful and I thought I can't do this every month. I don't know if it's I'm aware of what's coming or being injected where the sensation is less, due to DIEP but it's not as bad. Does the nurse pinch the skin before injection? My nurse said this helps x hope pain improves. I'm having my ovaries removed so soon won't have to have it. Take care x
You've have 4 also. Wow! We're you prescribed emla cream too?
I thought the same, but sadly I have to have them, as I don't want to remove my overies.
Since having the DIEP I've had a flat ish stomach, for the first time in my life π so the nurse jokes about not having much to pinch before injecting.
I walked around the supermarket to help walk off the ache, which did help.
Hi Sami, it is nice to have a flat stomachβΊοΈ but like you say there isn't much to grab x I'm tired most days , on phased return due to tiredness. I hope pain improves with time xtake care x
I've had 2nd injection, this time applying the Elma cream 2 hours before was alot better! Certainly makes having the monthly Injections more bearable! I definitely recommend Elma cream.
I've been getting Zolodex injections monthly since June and my nurse gives me an ice pack to numb the area where she is going to stick me about 20 minutes before and then she uses a numbing agent to numb it deeper under the skin... waits about 5 minutes and then I get the shot. I really don't feel a thing other than the sensation of the prick. Maybe ask if you can have the ice and numbing shot? I do get a bruise for a few days, but it goes away within a couple days. Hope that helps! Hugs.
I had my second Zoladex injection today. It was much better having used the Elma cream 2 hours before hand. More bearable to the point of not feeling the injection. So I definitely recommend to all to have Elma or an equivalent anaesthetic cream.
