Since having Paclitaxel I've been getting many hot flushes π I read that vitamin E and Folic acid helps, have they worked for anyone else? Any tips that can help I'd be very grateful.
Thanks Sami π

Hi Sami the hot flushes are a pain . I haven't tried anything yet but alot of people are telling me to take Sage. I hope you get some relief. I'm going to ask oncologist next appointment. X
It's a Major pain, lost count with the amount of blood hot flushes I have daily and at night! I've been taking evening primrose tablets and vitamin E oil both from Holland and Barrett, which so far have helped minimized them. I'm not sure if the rainy and cold days might be the actual reason for less hot flushes? But I'll keep you updated. I'll also try Sage, thanks for the recommendation π

Hi Sami my hot flushes come and go ..this last few days I have them regularly before that not for months my oncologist says it could be nothing to do with the medication but age related I am on tamoxifen and I found if I changed brand then that sometimes helps good luck Liz
Hello Lizzy, My oncologist said the same about it being unrelated, but for me have only experienced hot flushes during chemo. So far taking evening primrose tablets and vitamin E oil have helped me.

I read about vitamins E. And I ran to get it. I took 3 per day, ginger root and cinnamon stick tea help too. You need a combination of a few things to help u. I feel the intensity went from 10 to 4 since I am taking all these.
Hi just saw your comment about Ginger and Cinnamon, I read that these have a lot of health benefits so I take one teaspoon of each every couple of days in warm water , I just take the powdered variety from any supermarket , in the spices department . ( sheryl crow takes cinnamon too !) lol
Hey Nmartinez15
Thats really good! I'll also try ginger root and cinnamon stick tea with Vitamin E.
Thanks Sami π
Just a mild warning. I am on anticoagulants for a heart condition and ginger root and cinnamon tea is not recommended because of it's anticoagulant properties.
Hi I take Folic Acid to help against Depression but take βSage leaf β supplements for hot flushes .
Hello, I was told about Folic acid, I try that too thanks π though evening primrose tablets and vitamin E oil have so far helped.

Hi I asked my oncologist about natural / alternative / herbal medicine and he agreed it was worth trying .
If all fail to control your hot flashes, please talk to your GP, there are medications that can help.
I was told vitamin E can feed certain types of breast cancer - please okay with your doctor. I have about the worst case of hot flashes I know of and my doctor said no to evening primrose oil as well as vitamin E. She had me try venlafaxine as well as gabepentin(sp) both did cut back on hot flashes but both caused high amounts of mental fog and depression. I literally have nights where I lose up to 7-8 lbs in sweat. Daytime flashes are almost as bad but not as regular. I find the less I eat near bedtime especially things like ice cream or heavy things the less I flash or the milder they are. So far this is the only thing I have found that works for me that the dr approves.
Hello Becca,
Goodness I can Imagine the annoyance! Makes sense how I too was losing weight, though I thought it was due to a lack of appetite.
I spoke to my BCN about taking evening primrose tablets and vitamin E oil, she said try it and see how I get on. So far they have minimized, but we'll see and I'll keep you posted.

I changed the time I take my medication, morning instead of the evening so my hot flashes donβt wake me up at night.
I find them easier to manage during the day, except when they show up during an important meeting at work and make me look silly...
Hello Nanda,
Thats a good idea! Think I'll try that with my vitamins? Not a nice feeling at night! Tossing and turning eventually getting to sleep, only to wake up with a major hot π³ flush!
I can understand, I went to return an item in argos, and had one outta the blue. The guy must of thought I looked dodgy! π

Hello lovely ladies hope you donβt mind me jumping in on this as itβs my first post. Iβve just started taking Letrozole and after all the scary stories about side effects did some research and discovered that a very large majority of people are very deficient in magnesium which can help with a whole lot of the side effects including hot flushes. The recommended amount is 320m a day for women. I take it with vitamin d3 and calcium and keeping fingers crossed it helps. And the beauty is that magnesium starts to be beneficial right away. Anything that may help is worth trying isnβt it. Hope putting our heads together bring some good results. Iβm 69 and never had a hot flush in my life !
Hello Ruffledfeathers, cool username π
The more the merrier and welcome to the forum π. I'll shortly be taking Letrozole and Zoledronic acid! Anything that will help with hot flushes is plus and worth trying, unless not recommended by BCN, oncologist etc.
I'm also taking the multi vitamin with Selenium. Vitamin A, C & E for health skin and hair.
I've yet to purchase and try sage leaf, but will have a look in H&B or Boots.
Take care Sami π
