I went for my results yesterday I have a grade 2 cancer surgery on the 25.6

Hi, I am having a lumpectomy and sential node biopsy at the moment hoping the nodes aren't infected. My dad was also diagnosed with cancer on the same day and immediately had macmillan nurses with him. Life isn't good at moment 😣

Oh Cleo95 ...I am so sorry ....its a horrible moment when your told ....but ....a lumpectomy isn't that bad ...as long as you do your exercises ...I was up and about the day after ...a bit sore ....get a nice soft bra from Marks and spencer ...they do special ones and you get tax off ...I also used a soft sock ..to cushion the wound ...that's the first hurdle ...then i warn you ...its the waiting game again ...so relax ....be kind to yourself and I'm sure dad will get the best care as well ....one step at a time my lovely ...its a worrying time but try to stay calm and enjoy the day ....always here ...lots of love Jane x

I'm sorry to hear about ur and ur dad diagnosis. You and ur dad to take it one day at a time I agree be kind to yourselves (u and ur dad) and relax plenty.

I got 2 post surgery bras from M&S, they sorted the tax at the till. I had to print and sign my name on a label/pricetag that's attached to the bra.

Hope this might also help? Asda online do a range/set of 2 bras- 1 black and 1 white from £12 to £16?

I purchased 2 sets of the front fastening post surgery bra set for £15, and they are super comfortable and good value for money. They sell them in S/M/L instead of the standard bra sizes, I purchased the M and L to see which fitted better, returned the L for another M set. As they don't sell them instore.

Hi...if you get a shop assistant and explain whats happening ...she will take you to the mastectomy bras .or look for them .....i know your not having a mastectomy ...but...they are very soft ..and extremely sportive .. and that is what you need ....when you take it to the till they will take the tax off...if they don't, tell them ... ...I got mine for £20 ...and I still wear it now ..after two years ..it is lovely ...also phone the breast cancer support line ....0808 800 6000 ....and ask to go on the "someone like me "scheme ...I was linked up to a lady who had been through similar stages as me ..we had a call every month ...to just talk about my fears problems ect ....it was so valuable , i didn't feel so alone ....that number you can also talk to a nurse about any medical problems or for just some extra support and reassurance, you can also get a free magazine called VITA its brills for extra information and help ... ....your at a stage now when you need to put in place a " survival package " to support you ...this way you will get through whats ahead ...I promise there will be a time when you think " what was I so worried about " ....there is a nice piece on the hub about practical things you can do to make life easier ....like button up tops...a cushion to support under your arm after op ....just stuff like that ....so Cleo .....positive pants on ...and lets get you through this .....always here lots of love Jane xxxxx

Hi Cleo95, sounds like you're getting it from all angles - tough. Now is a special time to put you first and take time to look after your wellbeing, particularly your headspace. Keep up your routines as much as possible, exercise, classes, social activities and add in more relaxation, mindfulness, yoga, tai chi as well as some pampering. Lots of things to clear the busyness in your mind and clear it so you can think well and get the balance of time for you/Dad right for you. Take care xx

Hi Cleo

All bras that as classed as "mastecomy" bras are tax exempt there is also a brand named ROYCE who are specialist bra people go their website and they will give you stockists you may like to wait until after your op as you may well be swollen so something that fits now may not fit after make sure you get a cotton one (that's my preference) I am wearing Royce 2 years after very similar to your diagnosis - they are very supportive and quite femine - I know it's hard but you are just starting out on this wretched journey so many of us have to endure just take 1 step at a time and you will get to the end

make use of the breast care nurses they can be a great help/support also see if there is a Macmillan centre near you mine did relaxation classes 3 times a week it just gets out of that headspace I know you will be in

Take care - vent on here if you need to, ask questions - you are not alone even if it feels like it

I had the same surgery 3 weeks ago. My hospital have a policy that you leave same day so I was out within 2 hours of being back in the ward as I was last in surgery in the afternoon. The pain was bearable with taking a good dose and range of pain killers for the 5 days or so following. Check your circumstances but I could take a maximum of 8 dihydrocodeine (given on prescription) plus 6 ibruprofen and 8 paracetamol a day. The latter two you need to buy yourself but are very cheap if you buy supermarket generic ones.

I found it helpful to have a pad and paper with planned times to take these throughout the day and I set alarms on my phone so I didn’t forget. I understand that it is better not to let the pain start . By having some at 10pm and 11 pm I slept fine.
