Mastectomy completed

Well I went into hospital on Monday and had the mastectomy and axilliarry clearance that morning and was chucked out out on Tuesday as is the way nowadays. I was lucky enough to get a bed in the private wing as the main hospital was full. Now at home I am as weak as a kitten so am taking it easy. I should say I'm 74 and counting !

I am now totally frontless as the other side was done 17 years ago. This is a new cancer. How long will it take to feel relatively normal.I get the final results on 27/12 but I'm pretty sure the I'm pretty sure I'll be having Chemo. This is the one I dread and any positive experiences will be very welcome . Meanwhile I will knit a hat !💂🏻

Ah, bless you, Sounds like you're in good spirits!

I wish you all the best for 27th. Chemo isn't great but its do-able, suppose wasn't as bad as I'd imagined it would be, mostly tired and constipated! It's the fear of the unknown isn't it? If you do have it, rest plenty, drink plenty of water and take any offers of help that come your way, now is the time to park your pride!

Keep on keeping on xx

Hi

I hope the recovery goes really well. As cazlav says, chemo isnt always horrendous. I had chemo earlier this year and found it bearable, yes you inevitably get side effects but I didnt suffer hugely. My tips are keep away from anyone with a hint of sniffles etc, get some pineapple and melon for the peculiar taste many of us experience, get some cheery scarves and have your hair trimmed short in advance of it coming out, try and get on the make up day 'look good feel good' run by the charity of the same name, drink lots and most of all be kind to yourself. xxxxxxxxxxxxCaroline

I am behind in what has been happening with you...Have you gotten your final results?? I had a bilateral mastectomy 12 years ago..with reconstruction implants...Last March after having had more dicomfort than I could take, I had DIEP flap surgery..belly fat to chest area....not quite that easy..10+hour surgery...But great to get those implants off of my chest..and the DIEP flaps feel like me again....I did have healing complications on my abdomen....I found out Last September-ish that I have subcutate Lupus...maybe that is why I do not heal well?....anyhow this coming Tuesday I will be getting my stomach repaired...I am very concerned that Lupus makes healing more difficult....How are your wounds healing?? And how are you feeling?? I am hoping for you that there will be no chemo for you xoxox

I have been wondering about you..I do not know how I missed all you have written

Hello Leslie. I haven't posted recently as I've had a rather torrid time. My final results were 1.7 tumour but multifocal in the breast so mastectomy was a good decision. Only one positive node out of 14 and I have been downgraded from 3 to 2. So that's good. But then I got a skin infection over the wound and have had to take a hideous antibiotic for 10 days. Last tablets two days ago and am already beginning to feel a bit

better. It's interesting to see you have Lupus as I have Sjogrens / Mixed connective disease and am taking an immunosuppressant. This of course opens me up to infections. I do have to have Chemo plus Herceptin so will have to stop that before I start Chemo. I also have seroma which they were going to drain but

decided to leave for the moment to see if it would reabsorb itself.

Does anyone know if having a seroma delays Chemo ? I hope not.

At least I don't have to have Radiotherapy.

I hope your tummy repair goes well. Healing may take a little more time but it will happen.

Onwards and Upwards !
