Hi, you usually have a mammogram and ultrasound of the remaining breast. They may even ultrasound the mastectomy site, that's what I had. You get the results within 2 weeks I think.. I had mine done privately so was slightly different as had results the same day.
No, haven't had any blood tests, but imagine it depends on original diagnosis I suppose. Imagine if you ring the breast care nurse or her consultant they will be able to let you know what the check up will entail. Remember to go prepared for a possible wait, so books, iPad, drink, snacks etc, hope all goes well
My hospital stopped the ultrasounds after the first two annual mammograms. This was a blow to me as I had a mastectomy so the side I need checking doesn't get checked.
As always it is different for each individual. I have a mammogram on the non-mastectomy side and the consultant asks me if I've noticed any symptoms during my regular breast checks (as I know how things feel now after surgery). General examination of both boobs. Discussion re how feeling, ongoing side effects and any concerns. Confirm next appointment - 6 months time for me and what to do if any worries in between.
