Hello everyone. I have today taken my first CoQ10 after being told that it's a good thing to take when suffering aches, pains, weakness. I am happy to try anything that might help. I don't know if my constant aches, pains, weakness and stiffness are down to my age, my brain surgery, my stroke... I would like it gone though. I was looking forward to an appointment with a Rheumatologist in December, but it's been cancelled and will now be in March next year.
I'd love to hear from anyone who is on CoQ10. A friend told me my statin (Atorvastatin) may be giving me issues with my muscles, it was he who suggested this stuff may help.

I used CoQ10 when I had sciatica and lower back pain. From memory it did help. I stopped when I was diagnosed with other conditions as I was concerned it might interfere with the drugs I was given. (I've no idea if it would have ... perhaps I'll go back on it now as apart from the back pain I also have muscle pains). If you try it, give it 3 weeks at least to assess if it's made a difference.
Oh and I'm sure you will but worth saying, get a brand that is trustworthy. I use 'Purelabs'
Ok....a bit of a back story if I may..short story long.
I have a irregular heart beat and not the full blown AF symptoms..ie high heart rate >100 resting, high blood pressure.
When I was first diagnosed with AF after a knee op..at the age of 30.
I was sent off to a cardiologist..he did his thing..resting rate 120, abnormal blood pressure..slightly enlarged left upper atria. So I went for a cardoversion...lasted 72 hrs back into AF.
I as put on the usual AF meds at the time..warfrin and digoxin and was told to see you GP every 3 weeks for your warfarin meds. I asked the cardiologist if I was on these drug and the program for the rest of my natural life..the answer was yes.
M reply was to him.."no way".. so the cardiologist who was of Chinese extraction put me on a Chinese herbalist..visiting Chinese professor in Chinese medicine at Melbourne Uni Med school who was developing a course on complimentary medicine..I went to him very f/nite for 16 months to received my herbal medicine which I had to boil in a Chinese ceramic medical pot that would "kill a brown dog"..
When I had to move interstate I asked the herbalist if there was anything I could take daily to help with my irregular heart rate.
He mentioned ..Co Enzyme q10 (CoQ10) 70mg daily and then increase the dosage rate about 20% per year.
Roll on to the tender age of 64..so I have been on the Co Enzyme 10 for 34 years..and the dosage I now take daily is 150mg.
I went for a check up about 6 months ago with the local GP... heart rate (resting) normal, blood pressure (resting)normal under the stress test, both are within normal parameters for my age group..interestingly..an above average recovery rate after stress but I still have an irregular heart beat.
GP shaking the finger...still wants me on blood thinners..
So I go for Blood test..the results..my blood is abnormally thin..the response from the pathologist.."Are you on blood thinners..because by this result it looks that way, you sure you are not on blood thinners!"
The issues I have with taking Cq10 over the 34 years...are as follows:
1/. I can have a bout of insomnia every couple of months..but some valerian tablets fixes that.
2/. When I accidentally cut myself, break the skin..I can bleed longer than average its colour is a very bright red....and I can bruise.. but people look at me when I tell them my age.."nah..you early to mid 50's".. and my partner says I have tight skin around my face..what ever that means.
3/. My toe and finger nails grow exponentially..I cut them on Sunday..by Wednesday they need a trim..same with my hair..or of what is left of it.
4/. I cut or scratch myself..I can heal quickly... healed within 2 days
My partner takes Co enzyme q10, 70mg dosage every day and she has noticed that she does not get physically tired or muscle sore when she is at work..her age 64 and a theatre nurse...but it took about 2 or 3 weeks for her to start getting result.
What made her believe this..is that when she does not take her dosage...she really feels it (dragging the feet as she put it.) when she is at work...
So in conclusion..
Co Q 10 may be not for everyone..and Co10 is a supplement so it does not have the pharmaceutical results..ie "the quick result"...it will take time..and the results quite supple.
If you are on beta blockers of heart meds (pharmaceuticals)..CoQ10 , CAN and WILL react with them...so consult GP or your cardiologist.
Thank you. I've felt no benefit yet, but this is early days. I'm on Atorvastatin, Clopidogrel and a blood pressure tablet too, even though my bloods tested as fine beforehand.
Lulu_Lollipop I take QCO10 (300 mg 1 x daily) , B2 200 most (2 × daily), and Magnesium 500 mg (1 × daily).As advised by a Neurologist recommend that you find a good Neurologist. Yes, I take Statin Lipitor 40mg
