Abortion reasons

My period is late and I am worried that I am pregnant. I plan on taking a pregnancy test soon, but I have been doing research into abortions. In the UK the law is that you can only get one if two doctors agree that a pregnancy affects your mental or physical health. So does this mean I couldn't have one? What would a valid reason be to be able to get an abortion? Thank you for any information, I hope I am just being paranoid.

In the U.K. Abortions are widely available and the only 'reason' you need is the one that you feel will most effect you. I personally wouldn't have an abortion but its personal choice and the clinics do not judge x

All you would need to do is go to the doctors and have a test to confirm you are pregnant. You can then tell them that you want a termination. Some doctors may book you in for it or they may give you the details to book it yourself.

From personal experience they dont need too much information into the reason why, however, once at the clinic you are assessed as to wether this is the right decision for you (sort of like a mini councelling sesion)

I don't see a reason why you can't bypass the doctors completely and go to the clinic straight away. Not everyone has a gp.

Hope this helps, if you need someone to talk to, feel free to message me. I have been through the same thing

Hi There,

Sorry to hear you are so worried. Abortion is legal in England up to the 24th week of pregnancy. You don't need a GP referral you can self-refer in many areas of England. Bpas number is 03457 30 40 30 and you can book a consultation. You discuss your reason for wanting to end the pregnancy at your consultation, but a doctor uses 5 grounds (not reasons) as that is personal to you. If you couldn't cope emotionally or financially with a child right now, that is a good reason. Try not to worry, and try and get seen as soon as you can. Hope you reach the decision that is right for you.

Best Wishes

Jules

no unfortunately you don't need a good reason to abort in England any woman can get rid of her child simply because they don't want it, sad but true

You can have an abortion for many reasons but not wanting the child is a big one. Doctors would rather you abort than have a child and mistreat it or suffer psychologically. I've never had one buy its not our place to judge those who wish to have one. The earlier the better really also.

When I went for my abortion, me and the "father" were just sleeping around for fun and contraception failed. When I spoke to the advisor at the clinic I told her I was young, didn't want children at all and financially unstable. These are ways doctors can legally see why you want to terminate your pregnancy. The staff at BPAS are amazing and will support you in the clinic and afterwards, they have a 24 Hour Line which I took full use of as I am a panicker and anything I dont see normal I need to know but they gave me advice and support :)
