Hi hope you can help I am 39 years old and trying for a baby I had sex 2 weeks ago and around 2 weeks after last period there's no sign of my next period and I ant craving chocolate like I normally do when my period is due how long should I wait to have a test..and do u have any tips becomes if I don't fall pregnant in the next year I am giving up due to age 😕thank you in advance x

Hi Kazza,

I'm sorry to hear things are difficult for you at the moment. Is if your period is late? If so, you can take a test now. If this is negative but your period hasn't arrived after 4 days, you should retest.

If this test is negative, it might be worth making an appointment with your GP to have a chat. You can explain that you are trying to conceive but have been struggling and they might be able to help and find out if there are any problems affecting your fertility.

I know it must be hard, but it's important to remember that even though you are 39 it doesn't automatically mean you won't be able to fall pregnant - it just might mean it takes a little bit more time.
