Post Gallbladder Removal magnesium warning

I had my gallbladder removed a year ago after a gallstone got stuck and caused me to turn yellow with jaundice. I have had the usual after-effects, a bit more diarrhoea etc if I ate the wrong foods like fried stuff etc but I am usually careful to eat sensibly. A couple of months back I started to get a lot more diarrhoea episodes, to the point I was reluctant to leave the house and was using sanitary towels in case of sudden accidents. I went to the GP, had some tests, nothing showed up but of course as soon as I made the gp appointment it all started to get better. A month later I am back to post-operation normal. It took me a while to work out what I think caused my bowel symptoms, keeping a food diary for the last 3 months and researching via Dr Google and any other information I could find. Just about the time these problems started, I started taking a magnesium supplement to see if it helped me sleep better. Turns out magnesium can be a laxative and if I have interpreted the information correctly, increases bile production. About the time I saw the GP, I stopped taking the magnesium and my symptoms began to get better (I stopped purely because it wasn't helping with my sleep).I just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience with magnesium? I was taking the recommended daily dose btw.

yes I can’t take magnesium supplement it’s gives me terrible diarrhoea, magnesium draws more liquid into the colon making us get diarrhoea, if you get cramps it can be a magnesium deficiency, I am diabetic and suffer with a lot of foot pain magnesium did help but I could not cope with the diarrhoea.

Thanks for confirming my findings - what annoys me is there's no warning that magnesium might have this side effect after gallbladder removal. I have diverticular disease as well, so I really don't need any laxatives. I hope you find something else that helps your foot pain.
