Which doctor to see for Osteoporosis?

My OBGYN did a DEXA scan and determined I have osteoporosis in my hip. She said to see an endocrinologist. I am finding two types of endocrinologists… one is an MD and one is a doctor of osteopathy. Anyone have experience with these two different types of endocrinologists?

I see a “general” endocrinologist for same condition as you. My GP suggested who I should see but given it’s up to you, call medical centres in those categories or google them to see what each endocrinologist specialises in. Many cover diabetes, pituitary and adrenal so you are looking for the magic word they also “have an interest” or “specialise” in osteoporosis. Hope that helps as I’m in Australia but “google search” is universal. PS: Depending on your age, they may suggest exercise over pills. Investigate any meds thoroughly as you can only take them for five years. When you stop the treatment, your bones suffer worse osteoporosis. I’m in my 60s. I was dx with osteopenia in my 40s, which morphed into osteoporosis by my 50s. I only take Vit D and exercise and have managed to remain stable re: osteoporosis in hip and lower back. I do boxing, and physio, to achieve this. Walking is key too! Get your DEXA scans every two years to monitor your condition :-)
