hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

A friend of mine with osteoporosis recently broke her leg and used Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy which accelerated healing and apparently stimulates osteoclasts. Has anyone here used this for osteoporosis without a fracture, and if so, do you have results to share?

Hi. I'm a little confused about what you are asking. I had my first experience of oxygen therapy yesterday. I have fractures which have almost healed although I'm taking the oxygen in the hope that it will improve my bone and general health.

There is no way of measuring how this oxygen may help. Initially I'm planning 20 sessions which takes 90 minutes each time. I'm happy to share how I feel at the end of this plan, but there is no test to confirm any benefit. Even a Dexa Scan only gives an approximation of bone density, which is not a complete picture of bone health.

It is well known that the oxygen speeds healing. Sports professionals use the hyperabic chamber to speed healing. An injury may heal in 2 weeks as opposed to eight weeks without it. Also MS patients get benefits from using it. Google or youtube will have lots of information on benefits of this therapy. I'm guessing this info comes from studies and people's experiences.

Thank you Deanna. I know it has proven results to expedite bone fx healing. I don't see studies/reports that indicate it helps build bone for those of us with osteoporosis and no fractures. Wondered if anyone here found a study or has that experience from test results.

I asked this question on my first visit. These tests and studies do not exist. Even the dexa scans are not accurate. Big Pharma likes to devise tests for their medications so they can market and sell more. Fracture risk figures are only estimations. Many people take medication and still fracture. Many people who who do not take medication do not fracture.

Common sense tells me that if a bone break can heal much more quickly using oxygen therapy, then it follows that it has a positive effect on bone. Too many factors influence bone health .....nutrition, exercise, medication....there is no way of knowing how much each has helped if at all.
